Valentin Dretzel, also Drechsel, Tretzel or Trexel
(baptized 1578 - 1658) was a German organist and
composer. After completing his training, he worked as
an organist in various churches in his hometown. He
came from a musical family, his brothers Michael
(1576–1635) and Wolfgang (1585–1655) were also
musicians.
In addition to numerous occasional works, he mainly
composed sacred vocal music, including a Magnificat and

organist, composer and instrumentalist who held
positions at Frauenkirche, Spitalkirche for Caspar
Hassler, St Lorenz, and St Sebald which was the highest
position in Nuremberg. It is clear that Valentin was a
virtuoso performer on the organ and his compositions
included ricercares, canzones, motets, fugues and
songs. Dretzel's "Sertulum musicale" contains many of
his works as well as suggestions for the number and
types of instruments to be used in various
compositions.
