José Brocá y Codina (in Catalan: Antoni Josep Mateu Brocà i Codina) (21 September 1805 – 3 February 1882) was a Spanish guitarist and composer of the Romantic period. Brocá was born in Reus, province of Tarragona. Mainly self-taught on the guitar, he also studied briefly with Dionisio Aguado. He was reputed to have been an excellent performer on his instrument. Antonio José Mateo Brocá y Codina, militar, guitarrista, compositor y pedagogo, nació en la ciudad
de Reus (Tarragona) a las diez de la noche del 21 de septiembre de 1805, siendo bautizado al día
siguiente en la iglesia parroquial de San Pedro. Era hijo de José Brocá y Veciana (1777-1836), labrador
y de María Codina Balsells (1783-1830), los dos naturales de Reus.
