Camille Saint-Saëns composed the Carnival of the
Animals as a humorous suite of music consisting of
fourteen movements. He did not allow any public
performances of the entire suite, as he feared its
frivolous nature would damage his reputation as a
composer, however, he did allow performances of the The
Swan movements which he arranged for cello and two
pianos.
