In 1886 Camille Saint-Saëns composed his famous ‚Le Carnaval des animaux.. Grande Fantaisie Zoologique’ (Carnaval of the animals. Great zoologic fantasie). He did not permit during his lifetime the work to be published. Only no. 13 of the carnaval, ‘Le cygne’ (The Swan), a piece for solo violoncello and 2 pianos, was published in 1887 and played first in the same year. The complete composition not earlier than 1822 was published and performed. We offer ‘The Swan’ in an arrangement for clarinet in A and piano.
