Chaucer's "The Hous of Fame", ca. 1384.
Aside from the voice, archeology tells us that the
flute is the earliest musical instrument. A number of
such instruments have found in the Swabian Alb region
of Germany, some dating as far back as 35,000 - 43,000
years ago.
