The harmonies seem familiar in this setting, yet the voicing is fresh and inviting. The gentle, twinkling piano part, particularly between verses, creates a beautiful contrast to the more sustained homophony of the choir.

This anthem tells of both the exuberant praise of the angels and the gentle song of Mary. The angels offer their shout of joy while Mary sings her tender lullaby. Both are appropriate musical expressions for Christians today to celebrate the birth of the infant Jesus. Text author, Michael Perry, states that both celebration and contemplation must contribute to our worship of the Christ Child..

A tuneful and flexible Christmas anthem for soloist, SATB choir, and keyboard. The solo is manageable by an average voice, although the soloist is predominant in the beginning and end of the piece. The solo range is suitable for a mezzo soprano/second tenor (highest note: E) except the final note of the piece, which could be covered by choir sopranos (high F.) The men sing the melody in unison on one verse. There is a contrasting minor section sung by the full choir in the middle, then a return to the opening melody sung by the soloist. Often the choir singsoo orah to accompany. At times the keyboard supports, at times it doubles.

The Gravity of Kindness is Howard Goodallâ??s stunning setting of Naomi Shihab Nyeâ??s poem Kindness, for SATB and piano with optional soprano solo. It was composed for the highly regarded Addison Singers, in memory of their long-standing member Cathy Bereznicki. Kindness is framed by two lullabies: the Mexican Arrorró mi niño and the well-known Coventry Carol, underpinned by the universal themes of unconditional love and the hope that kindness brings. The contemporary, reflective and uplifting style of the music makes this a versatile work: whilst ideal for Christmas concerts, it is equally suitable for performance at any time of the year.
