Easy Piano Pieces from Bach to Schönberg-The Wiener Urtext Album is an album of selected easy Piano pieces from various Wiener Urtext editions. The album contains well-known and lesser known original compositions from Bach to Schoenberg which are intended to diversify second and third-year Piano lessons. The pupil shall get accustomed to original Urtext compositions as early as possible and at the same time be encouraged to play creatively. Valuable help is provided by the short index of composers at the end of the volume containing links to Internet pages on the composers which shall encourage the pupil to hunt up further information.As in other Wiener Urtext editions this volume toocontains the obligatory facsimile page. Compared with modern notation it can get both teachers and pupils onto fascinating expeditions.

La nouvelle collection Primo ('Urtext Primo-Reihe') de la Wiener Urtext Edition ('édition viennoise - texte original') a pour objectif de remédier au manque qui existe entre la fin de l'étude d'une méthode de piano et le passage à la suite du processus sous forme de cours. Wiener Urtext-Franck's Sonata is one of the most famous works in the chamber music repertoire. This new Wiener Urtext Edition is based on the first edition with Franck's final corrections. Inconsistencies between the Piano score and the solo part are due to annotations by the violinist Eugène Ysaÿe the dedicatee who was given the work as a wedding present. This version likely to have been authorized by Franck is published for the first time in an Urtext edition. Günther Ludwig in his preface suggests a carefully considered cerebral approach to this highlight of the repertoire.

Apart from various insignificant emendations relating to accidentals and ornamentation, this 1997 revision of Bach's Welltempered Clavier contains a remarkable correction in the musical text of the B minor prelude which so far has not been included in any modern edition. The present Wiener Urtext Edition deviates from the autograph which seems erroneous in bar 11, and was never revised by Bach himself, and instead follows the musically more logical early version which is supported by a correction by J.Fr. Maurice Ravel's Gaspard De La Nuit is one of the most important Piano works of the 20th century and constitutes the height of the extension of the pianistic playing techniques and tonal possibilites which was already begun by Chopin and Liszt in the 19th century. The three movements Ondine Le Gibet and Scarbo are based on poems by Aloysius Bertrand which Ravel put in front of each of the three pieces. Thus too the work is in a tradition represented by composers such as Schumann and Liszt in the 19th century that combines instrumental music with literary models. For the new edition published by the Wiener Urtext Edition the editorsconsulted not only the first edition used almost exclusively up to now but also Ravel's autograph as well as his personal copy of the first edition on the basis of which numerous passages in the musical text could be corrected and brought closer to Ravel's original intention. In addition the editors included corrections from personal copies of various students of Ravel. Entries of the composer going well beyond mere text corrections and practical performance tips handed down by his students are analysed in the Notes of Interpretation. The reader-friendly large-format Wiener Urtext edition is completed by a trilingual glossary of the French performance instructions used by Ravel as well as English and German translations of Bertrand's three poems.

For more than 200 years Mozart’s Piano Sonatas have been part of every pianist’s repertoire. Research done over the last few decades has made it possible however to establish more accurate dating and ordering of these works. Expert examination of original documents has shown that many printed editions from the eighteenth century give more reliable detail than Mozart’s own written scores; many of these works were prepared for publication by the composer himself and marked with precise indications for performance with regard to ornamentation dynamics and articulation. All this together with the rediscovery of documents that only becameaccessible again at the end of the 20th century gives reason enough to justify the publication of a new Wiener Urtext edition of Mozart’s Piano Sonatas.To follow the second volume published in the spring of 2003 with Sonatas K 330 to K 576 Wiener Urtext now present the first volume which contains the Sonatas K 279 to K 311.
