Elgar wrote relatively little for the piano but his Salut D'amour (Love's Greeting) a beautiful ode to his wife has proved over the years to be very popular. This arrangement is for Violin and Piano. This Peters Edition Urtext edited by Donald Burrows.

Of the violin concertos by Belgian composer and violinist Jean Baptiste Accolay the first in A minor has become a poular audition piece under the title 'Concertino I'. This single-movement work is appealing and effective but not too difficult. In the earlier part of Elgar's career as a composer he wrote several short pieces which became very popular. Chanson de Nuit and Chanson de Matin both carried his name far and wide before he composed his larger orchestral works. These two pieces which together complete Op.15 were published in several versions at once: for string orchestra for small orchestra for violin and piano and so on - so it is almost impossible to say with any degree of certainty which was the original version. However Elgar himself was a good violinist and so it may well be that he would have played this tune through to himself on the violin before adding a piano part andsending it off to his publishers for their consideration. Composed in 1924 for Violin and Luthéal (A keyboard instrument which never gained much popularity) Tzigane demonstrated Ravel's ability to go beyond his natural Impressionist style and write a piece which would be much better categorized as Late Romantic. First performed with the Luthéal substituted for a Piano in 1925 today the piece is accepted as either being performed with the Piano and Violin or Orchestra and Violin Ravel himself having arranged the piece for Orchestra.

This complete edition of the Mozart sonatas for violin and keyboard has been researched and prepared by Cliff Eisen one of the most distinguished Mozart scholars of our time. Professor Eisen recognizes that many of the apparent inconsistencies and idiosynchrasies of Mozart's notation are perfectly deliberate and that the attempts in many other editions to impose uniformity upon similar phrases or musical paragraphs can bemisguided. As he writes in the preface '...the notion that the classical style represents a model of symmetry balance and clarity is for the most part an 19th-century fiction...it has little to do with Mozart's actual practice which is basedprimarily on variety of both content and articulation.' So in this new edition alternative readings found in parallel passages are preserved rather than being sterilized by a spurious quest for conformity. Naturally all such instances are noted within the Critical Commentary. The highly individual beaming within Mozart's autographs is also respected in the new edition as this often contributes to our aural perceptions of phrase structure and accent. Professor Eisenis is conscious that there is no single 'Urtext' for this music. On the contrary he believes that 'there is compelling evidence that Mozart's later performances of his works were characterized by changes--sometimes substantial changes--in the musical text.'
