Par VACCAI NICOLA. This excellent singing tutor presents 15 lessons, all designed to teach the singer both vocal exercises and the use of the Italian language. It has long been thought that the Italian language is best suited to the art of singing, and in this edition, rather than use meaningless monosyllables, Vaccai has set Metastasio's beautiful poetry to each exercise. The lyrics to this 'practical voice method' are in Italian, with German singing translation by John Bernhoff.

La série « The Complete Chopin ?
Partitions classique / Piano - instruments à clavier / Piano / EDITION PETERS

Par HENSELT ADOLPH. The composer and pedagogue Adolph von Henselt (1814?1889) can truly be considered one of the founding fathers of the Russian School of piano playing. He counted among his pupils Nicolai Sergeyvich Zverev, the teacher of Rachmaninoff and Scriabin. Rachmaninoff considered Henselt?s Etudes the equal of those by Liszt and Chopin for their great beauty. Henselt?s music was well-known in his time, and in the repertoire of the greatest virtuosos of the 19th century, including Clara Schumann (who premiered his F minor Concerto with Mendelssohn conducting), Franz Liszt, Hans von Bülow, Vladimir de Pachmann and Alexander Scriabin. The two sets of Etudes Opp. 2 and 5 were composed just before Henselt moved permanently to Russia and each set was originally published as two books of six études. This new Edition Peters Urtext edition collects each set in its own volume, together with, in volume 1, a selection of Henselt?s Exercices préparatoires and, in volume 2, two additional etudes. It is edited by Daniel Grimwood, one of the composer?s most highly regarded interpreters, whose recording of the complete Etudes is available from Edition Peters Sounds. This is the only available modern Urtext edition of these important piano works. / Date parution : 2023-06-01/ Etude / Piano

Par LEWIS GEORGE. Although his Signifying Riffs (1998) for percussion and strings is halfway there, String Quartet 1.5: Experiments in Living (2016) is the first proper string quartet by composer George Lewis. Borrowing its title from the writings of John Stuart Mill, Experiments in Living leads the performers through a series of idiosyncratic episodes featuring extremes of gesture and extended technique over the course of a single, 16-minute movement. Commissioned by the Fromm Foundation, String Quartet 1.5: Experiments in Living was composed for Spektral Quartet, who gave the premiere performance in October 2016 at Chicago\'s Harris Theater. This set of score and parts has been made available for sale by Edition Peters as part of the Peters Contemporary Chamber Series and includes full performance notes. Chopsticks and superball mallets are required to achieve some of the score\'s percussive playing techniques. / Date parution : 2022-09-07/ Répertoire / Quatuor à Cordes

Par MENDELSSOHN-BARTHOLDY FELIX. Felix Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah caused a sensation at its world première performance, sung in English, in Birmingham UK in August 1846. The huge forces marshalled for the occasion delighted the audience, who demanded no fewer than eight encores and loudly acclaimed the composer despite an injunction to observe the solemnity of the occasion by refraining from applause. Elijah has been an essential repertoire work for choral societies ever since. Published on the 175th anniversary of that famous premiere, Edition Peters is proud to present a new English-language Urtext edition of the vocal score containing the original libretto by William Bartholomew. Edited and with a preface by the highly respected musicologist Klaus Burmeister, the edition also includes a foreword ‘Mendelssohn and Birmingham’ by Simon Halsey, one of the world’s foremost choral directors (Chorus Director City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra Choruses; Artistic Director, Orfeó Català Choirs and Artistic Adviser, Palau de la Música, Barcelona; Choral Director, London Symphony Orchestra and Chorus; Artistic Director, Berliner Philharmoniker ‘Vokalhelden’ Programme). The edition complements and is designed to be used in conjunction with the existing German/English full score (EP11345) and orchestral parts. An associated German language vocal score is also available (EP11347). Edition Peters Vocal Scores are the choice of the world’s leading choirs and chorus masters. They are practical, reliable, high-quality editions containing expert piano reductions. / Date parution : 2022-07-20/ Répertoire / Solistes, Choeur et Orchestre

Par CHOPIN FREDERIC. The Complete Chopin ? A New Critical Edition from Edition Peters is firmly established as the most important ongoing scholarly edition of Chopin\'s music and is a must for any discerning pianist. The world?s foremost Chopin editors, under Editor-in-chief John Rink, bring their unrivalled collective knowledge to imbue the project with unique authority, drawing upon the latest international scholarship. The Complete Chopin prioritizes the needs of the practical pianist and provides a beautifully presented performing text of each work based on a single principal source together with important variants, along with thorough critical commentaries and illuminating prefatory essays in English, French and German. Chopin\'s early Nocturne in E-flat major is one of his most popular works. First published in 1832, it has a charming, vocally-inspired melody in the treble with a serenade-like accompaniment in the left hand. Edited by leading Chopin scholar, Christophe Grabowksi, this volume presents two versions of the Nocturne: one based on the most definitive impression of the French first edition released during Chopin?s lifetime, the second a pioneering compilation of all the variants to have flowed from Chopin?s pen after the work was first completed. This second text allows pianists to create their own versions of the Nocturne by combining variants as they wish, thereby drawing inspiration directly from Chopin\'s boundless imagination. Edited by leading Chopin scholar, Christophe Grabowksi, as part of the Edition Peters series The Complete Chopin (series editors: John Rink, Jean-Jacques Eigeldinger, Jim Samson, Christophe Grabowski). Ground-breaking format, presenting both an Urtext reading and a version with all variants attributable to Chopin, allowing pianists to create their own version. / Date parution : 2022-07-28/ Répertoire / Piano

Original Version. Schumann?s Cello Concerto Rediscovered
In her first Urtext edition for Edition Peters, internationally renowned cellist Josephine Knight reveals Robert Schumann?s original version of his Cello Concerto in A minor Op. 129 ? a piece he actually called a ?Concertstück? ? removing generations of inauthentic editorial interventions. This is the only available modern scholarly edition of the work as Schumann originally conceived it, and restores the text from October 1850, based on the composer?s manuscript held in the Biblioteka Jagiello?ska in Kraków. This Full Score matches the separately available edition for Cello and Piano (EP 73488). Matching orchestral material is also available from the publisher.

Robert Schumann?s tragic last years have mired many of his greatest works in unnecessary doubt. The story of the suppression of his Violin Concerto by well-meaning friends is relatively well-known. Few, however, know that the version of the Cello Concerto that is routinely heard today is so far from Schumann?s original conception of the work ? not only in details of phrasing and articulation, but also featuring a different ending with a bold final flourish from the cello. Composed in a burst of inspiration in two weeks in October 1850 shortly after he and Clara had moved to Düsseldorf, Schumann (who in 1850 was still in good health) never heard the piece performed. In an effort to promote a performance of the work, he gave the score to the cellist Robert Emil Bockmühl. Bockmühl made revisions that Schumann resisted, and the hoped-for performance never happened. Schumann?s health failed and he died aged just 46 in 1856. The Concerto, in an already substantially revised form, was premiered in 1860 but it was not given significant recognition until it was championed by Pablo Casals in the 20th century by which time (and since) the text for the work had accreted additions and alterations from generations of soloists.
Now Josephine Knight, Piatti Professor of Cello at the Royal Academy of Music, London has returned to the original 1850 manuscript of the work, which is in the Biblioteka Jagiello?ska in Kraków, to reveal Schumann?s original thoughts for the first time in a modern Urtext edition. The edition reflects Schumann?s original conception of the work as a Concertstück and restores Schumann?s musical text, free of posthumous interventions.
?My ultimate wish,? says the editor, ?is to give performers both access to, and confidence that they are playing from, an edition which is a true representation of the piece in its original form, no matter how much more difficult this might be. I found that incorporating the changes enabled the piece to take on a completely different character ? one that is lighter and happier, even ?cheerful?, as Schumann himself described the work.'
