Kaija Saariaho's Leino Songs were premiered by Anu Komsi (Soprano) and Pia Värri (Piano) on 9 July 2007 in Kaarle's Church, Kokkola, Finland, as part of the Kokkola Opera Summer Festival and are dedicated to Anu Komsi.

Modern Norwegian composer Rolf Wallin's 'Drei Gedichte' arranged for a soprano voice and piano accompaniment. These three poems were written between 1900 and 1908 and they are very different in terms of form subject matter andatmosphere. Liebes-Lied is about a strong but painful love Buddha in der Glorie a description of religious ecstasy quite unusual in the works of Rilke and Sluss-stück about death which exists inthe midst of us in the middle of life.

Kaija Saariaho 's Emilie Suite was a joint commission by Carnegie Hall, New York City, Cité de la Musique, Paris, Luzerner Sinfonieorchester and Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg. It was first performed on 30 November 2011 at Carnegie Hall by the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra conducted by Hannu Lintu, with Elizabeth Futral (soprano). The first performance in Paris took place on 23 April 2013 at Cité de la Musique by the Avanti! Broken Branches is a short 3 minute song/meditation for soprano piano and double bass. It was written for a concert in New York in 1993 which featured a whole programme of political songs; composers were left free tochoose their own subject matter. The conflict in the former Yugoslavia was then at one of its many furious peaks and Weir made a transcription from a recording of a sad choral song from Croatia called zaspo Janko podjablonem. Edward Thomas was born in Lambeth on 3rd March 1878 and spent most of his childhood in London. His holidays however were spent with relatives in Swindon and it was there that he developed his abiding love of all things rural.He was educated at St Paul's Hammersmith and was encouraged in his creative writing by James Ashcroft Noble whose daughter he secretly married after her father's death and to the great disapproval of her family. Despitegrowing anxiety over poverty ill health and literary discouragement which exacerbated a natural tendency to depression Thomas worked unstintingly as a reviewer and wrote and published over 30 books between 1897 and 1917.'Adlestrop' was written with four other poems between 7th and 9th June 1915. He enlisted in 1915 at the age of 37 and was called to the Front in 1917. He arrived at Arras on 9th February 1917 and was killed on the 9th April Easter Monday by a shell blast in the opening minutes of the offensive.This work for Soprano and Piano was premiered by Jane Manning and Dominic Saunders at the Aldeburgh Festival in 1989. A setting by Kaija Saariaho of texts by Amin Maalouf for solo Soprano with Piano. A joint commission between the Thé tre De Ch telet Paris and the Barbican Centre London the piece was first performed in Paris April 2003. Thetext features four short writings Attente Douleur Parfum De L'Instant and Résonances with a complex Piano part that bubbles with effervescent textures and glissandi.

Elizabeth Maconchy's The Sun Moon and Stars consists of four settings of poems by Thomas Traherne for Soprano And Piano. Commissioned by Jane Manning and Richard Rodney Bennett.

(vocal score)-Kaija Saariaho?s Emilie was commissioned by Opéra de Lyon Barbican Centre London and Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian Lisbon. It was first performed on 1st March 2010 at Opéra de Lyon with Karita Mattila soprano conducted by Kazushi Ono. The stage director was François Girard.

New Heaven was expertly composed by Tolga Kashif. Tolga Kashif is a well accomplished conductor composer orchestrator producer and arranger. Kashif is knownfor his role as a creative partner in The Music Sculptors specialising in sound-to-picture.

Commissioned by and written for Nicola Walker Smith in October 1992 this set of songs takes as its starting point material from The Upside-Down Violin at Expo ’92 in Seville by The Michael Nyman Band and the Orquestra Andalusi de Tetuoan. The Moroccan orchestra plays only monophonically and consequently I wrote a ‘pure’ melody line - that is one not built on harmony. The harmonic content of Anne de Lucy Songs is thus derived from the melody for the first time in my work. The text is an ode to the great Renaissance theorist and musical speculator Salinas by Fray Luis de Leon.
