Belgian-Flemish composer, born in Kachtem (Izegem) on July 13, 1913, died in Roeselare on March 30, 1993.
Graduated at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent as a student of Joseph Ryeland, a follower of C Franck.
He was introduced by his teachers to the Belgian-Flemish Radio, where for more than two decades his symphonic-atmospheric music and virtuoso concert pieces were played by almost all Belgian orchestras. The lyric and transparency of his compositions created the effect of easy listening. The success-story ended around 1975. From then onwards, many considered the romantic style as dated. This gratuitous criticism irritated him. The resulting bitterness was only one of several life-experiences that transformed the rebellious teenager and flamboyant society-figure into a somewhat insecure personality. (Hide extended text) ...
