Franz Schubert: Trio in B Flat, Op. 99

The autograph of a composition always makes fascinating reading - and this is particularly true of Schubert's Trio in Eb major op. 100, as it underwent many changes during its composition. The manuscript, parts of which were greatly revised, bears eloquent witness to this and offers an opportunity to trace the intricacies of Schubert's phrasing and articulation. This source is in a private collection and our facsimile makes it accessible to the public for the very first time. It is, of course, in proven Henle quality, in lavish four-colour printing and with an extensive introductory text with in-depth information about the work. In a letter to his publisher in 1828, Schubert explicitly dedicated the work to 'no one, save those who find pleasure in it?. / Trio De Pianos

This study score of Franz Schubert’s complete string trios (Violin Viola and Violoncello) takes its text from the New Schubert Edition. It also includes Schubert’s very first essay in the genre which only resurfaced in 1997: the draft trio in B-flat major D 111A (1814). Besides this draft two other trios in B-flat major written a short while later have come down to us: D 471 and D 581. The first is likewise a fragment as it breaks off in m. 39 of the second movement. D 581 survives in two versions the first based on the autograph score the second on a set of parts prepared and thoroughly revised by Schubert. Ce ne sont pas ses grandes sonates pour piano qui ont fondé la réputation de Schubert mais bien ses courtes pièces indépendantes si caractéristiques.
