Jyrki Linjama (b. 1962) composed Chants and Spirituals for brass quintet in winter 2022/2023 for the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra’s chamber music series. The title of the work points in two directions: to Gregorian chant and to American negro spirituals. The serious antiphon Apud Dominum meets summer chamber jazz vibes - as well as skillful polyphony and fanfares. This product includes the score and the set of parts.Duration: 20’Instruments:Trumpet 1 in BbTrumpet 2 in BbHornTromboneTubaMovements:I CantusII Spiritual 1III Spiritual 2IV Pastoral.

Peter Latona's setting of the Entrance Antiphon for the Dedication of a Church is a perfect balance of solemnity and festivity. It opens with a brass and organ fanfare (echoed later by organ alone) and a chant-like choral section. Then the antiphon unfolds—easily sung by the assembly, while the verses offer some meat for SATB choir. Brass Quintet is used well throughout, supporting the antiphons and decorating the verses. Appropriate also for church anniversaries, the Feast of the Dedication of St. John Lateran, Christ the King C, or other festive liturgies. Duration: 8:00.

A Midwest Fanfare was commissioned by the Brass Band of Battle Creek and premiered by them during their appearance at the Midwest Clinic in Chicago on 20th December 2017 where this fanfare was the opening piece of the entire event. This piece is designed to be played with the cornets split into two teams either side of the band. It opens with the two groups answering each other antiphonally over a repeated figure in the lower band. A calmer central section introduces a euphonium solo which is then taken up by the whole ensemble. This leads back to a repeat of the opening fanfares over a rhythmic accompaniment and a short coda which brings the work to a close.

This Marian antiphon survives in autograph score among the manuscripts once in Vivaldi's possession, today preserved in the Biblioteca Nazionale Universitaria di Torino. It was evidently originally a four-movement work composed, possibly in 1726, for the Ospedale della Pietà in Venice, but the openingtwo movements, which must have occupied one or more separate gatherings, are lost. In these circumstances, a reconstruction of the complete work is not a worthwhile proposition, and the edition is therefore presented as a fragment. Its vocal part was notated by Vivaldi in the tenor clef, which was used at the Pietà by a number of singers among the figlie di coro who, in today's terms, would be classified as “low (or second) contraltos”. The score is of particular interest for featuring two parts named “Trombe” that are almost certainly not for brass instruments but for “violini in tromba marina”: specially adapted violins with only three strings anda distinctive bridge designed to mimic the raucous, rattling sound of a tromba marina.

For SATB (with divisions) unaccompanied This partner antiphon to Bednall's Alma Redemptoris Mater is fast and joyful. This pair of antiphons compliments Howells's setting of the other Marian antiphons (Salve Regina and Regina Caeli). The central section employs a soprano solo, and the divisi in the vocal parts creates a rich texture.
