Vocal Score Large Print-The story of the composition of Mozart's Requiem has a strange fabulous quality that is entirely typical of the events of his life. Whether we are considering his amazing exploits and achievements as a youthful virtuoso and maestro or the depth of his financial misfortunes in Vienna in the late 1780s there is little that is mundane about the main biographical facts. It comes as no surprise then to find that these facts have often been coloured and embroidered to enhance their emotional effect and to create a legend about this most remarkable musician. The simple story of the genesis of the Requiem is in itself striking - that in the last weeks of his lifeMozart was working on a Mass for the Dead that this work was the result of an anonymous commission and that the commissioner's envoy in order to avoid giving an address paid Mozart several unannounced visits like a messenger from another world - this story can easily be filled out with portents and hints of the supernatural.Even the account by Franz Niemetscheki (first published in 1798 based on information given by Mozart's widow Constanze and later receiving 'official' approval by being incorporated into the Mozart biography by Constanze's second husband Georg von Nissen) writes of the commissioner's agent appearing 'like a ghost' and Friedrich Rochlitz's account goes much further in suggesting that the composer was possessed by a demoniac and feverish desire to complete the Requiem and conscious of approaching doom

Complete Concert Arias
for Bass: Bass: Vocal
Album [Vocal Score] Breitkopf & Härtel
Franz Beyer's new edition of Mozart's complete concert arias had a noticeable ga...(+)
Franz Beyer's new edition of Mozart's complete concert arias had a noticeable gap up to now: there were no arias for the bass voice! Four books had been issued by 2006 the Mozart year: three with soprano arias (EB 8671-73) and one with tenor arias (EB 8778). They were made with the collaboration of two outstanding experts Juliane Banse (soprano) and Christophe Prégardien (tenor) who provided suggestions for the execution of cadenzas 'Eingänge' and embellishments. Now Beyer presents the 'complete edition' for the lowest voice in collaboration with bass singer Robert Holl. The nine surviving bass arias are chiefly works from Mozart's last creative phase in which the composer offered little tidbits to the opera singers he was friends with. Deserving special attention are the arias 'Per questa bella mano' K. 612 (with obbligato double bass) and 'Männer suchen stets zu naschen' K. 433. While editing this aria Beyer completed the orchestral accompaniment that Mozart had only sketched which means that this piece is now available for the first time with an orchestral accompaniment in an authentic Mozartian style.

In 1759 Leopold Mozart compiled a notebook as a present for his daughter Maria Anna (usually called ‘Nannerl’) it was intended as a series of instructive exercises and practice pieces. The notebook though wasn't used solely by Nannerl but also by her younger brother Wolfgang and the talented boy didn't just use it for Piano practice but soon started to compose his own little pieces. Either Wolfgang himself or his father wrote them into the remaining empty pages of the notebook. This new edition contains only compositions by Leopold and Wolfgang Mozart. It is a companion volume to ‘The Young Mozart’ by H. Schüngeler which contains thefirst and easiest compositions by Wolfgang (ED 9008). A classic of the Piano teaching literature now available in the new Schott Piano Classics series. Menuett in F is an alternative piece for ABRSM Piano Grade 3 2017-2018 syllabus

Violin Sonatas Volume 2:
Violin: Instrumental
Album Violin and Piano [Sheet music] Peters
This complete edition of the Mozart sonatas for violin and keyboard has been res...(+)
This complete edition of the Mozart sonatas for violin and keyboard has been researched and prepared by Cliff Eisen one of the most distinguished Mozart scholars of our time. Professor Eisen recognizes that many of the apparent inconsistencies and idiosynchrasies of Mozart's notation are perfectly deliberate and that the attempts in many other editions to impose uniformity upon similar phrases or musical paragraphs can bemisguided. As he writes in the preface '...the notion that the classical style represents a model of symmetry balance and clarity is for the most part an 19th-century fiction...it has little to do with Mozart's actual practice which is basedprimarily on variety of both content and articulation.' So in this new edition alternative readings found in parallel passages are preserved rather than being sterilized by a spurious quest for conformity. Naturally all such instances are noted within the Critical Commentary. The highly individual beaming within Mozart's autographs is also respected in the new edition as this often contributes to our aural perceptions of phrase structure and accent. Professor Eisenis is conscious that there is no single 'Urtext' for this music. On the contrary he believes that 'there is compelling evidence that Mozart's later performances of his works were characterized by changes--sometimes substantial changes--in the musical text.' It is the achievement of this edition to indicate how far this freedom of musical expression can extend and as such it is likely to take pride of place in the collections of all those involved in the study and performance of these masterpieces.Contents: Sonatas K296 K376-K380; Andante and Fugue K402 (completed by Stadler); Sonata K403 (completed by Stadler).

The autograph of the Missa brevis K.192 (186f) known as the Little Credo Mass (because of the Credo calls interspersed in the text of the third movement) is dated Salzburg 24 June 1774. This Mass intended for Sundays and minor feasts was in any case written for Salzburg Cathedral in the archives of which is preserved an authentic set of parts containing markings by Mozart and his father. When the master journeyed to Paris in 1777 he took the autograph of this work along with him leaving it with the canons of Heilig Geist Kloster in Augsburg to have parts copied out.According to Abert (who wrote a classic biography of Mozart) this work is considered 'by manyto be the high point of Mozart's 'youthful Masses'' and 'as far as the motivic unity of the individual movements and the strengthening of the contrapuntal element is concerned goes far beyond everything composed hitherto'.Urtext of the New Mozart EditionFull score performance material (BA4770) and vocal score (BA4770-90) available for sale.

Mozart's lieder reveal him to be a dramatist in miniature. Even if he failed to cultivate this genre systematically he nevertheless directed his creative powers toward the lied at all stages of his career. His first effort (now lost) was written at the age of six or seven and he took up the genre again and again at irregular intervals down to the final year of his life. None the less Mozart usually chose to write a lied only when there was a special occasion for doing so. Even the preface to the firt complete edition of his lieder published in 1799 by Breitkopf & Härtel refers to them as 'occasional pieces' as does the Leipzig Allgemeine Musikalische Zeitung inthe same year. Mozart himself doubtless regarded these ingenious little works as 'pieces for friends' and was not disposed to think of them as particularly significant.
