Each of these four-movement works is a real jewel. Mozart worked hard on these six string quartets, and dedicated them to none other than the “inventor†of the genre himself: Joseph Haydn. They were first published in 1785, and have since then been reprinted innumerable times. Wolf-Dieter Seiffert, the editor of this new Henle Urtext edition, already penned the Critical Report for these Haydn Quartets in the New Mozart Edition, 25 years ago. He is now presenting this core repertoire in an edition of its own. This Urtext edition clarifies numerous inaccuracies in other editions, especially with regard to dynamics and articulation, and even corrects a few wrong notes that had gone unnoticed up to now. Special attention has here been paid to making the music as easy-to-read as possible, with ideally placed page turns.

This complete edition of Beethoven's correspondence has been edited by Sieghard Brandenburg on commission from the Beethoven House in Bonn. It forms a milestone in the study of Beethoven, being the first complete edition in German to be compiled and fully annotated in accordance with modern scholarly-critical criteria. The edition includes all of Beethoven's known letters (1,789 items of primary correspondence), all obtainable letters written to him (370 items of secondary correspondence) and numerous documents written on Beethoven's behalf by third parties (163 items of tertiary correspondence). It provides the text in a diplomatic transcription critically corroborated against the original sources, including deleted passages, addresses and drafts. The texts are presented in chronological order in six volumes and are made readily accessible by a seventh volume containing indices of names, places, works, senders, recipients, and text incipits as well as a list of sources and concordances to other editions of Beethoven's letters.

It is a great pleasure to present, with Thanatopsis, maestro Kissin's opus 4, an expressive setting of the ground-breaking poem from the quill of William Cullen Bryant. Published in in the form known today in 1821, it is an early example of American romantic poetry of the 19th century. Bryant is today reckoned among the group of “Fireside Poets†or “Schoolroom Poets,†names that allude to the places where their poems were usually recited. His poems – first and foremost Thanatopsis (“A Consideration of Deathâ€) as his most famous – are rooted in the English tradition, but at the same time show Bryant's openness to a genuine American language and lifeworld. Evgeny Kissin's setting is a large vocal scene intensely informed by recitative, which congenially allows the prevailing mood of the text to resound. Our edition additionally includes German and French translations of the poem and an informative afterword about Bryant's life and work and the genesis of Thanatopsis.
