Die lange Verbindung zwischen dem Flötisten Ernesto Köhler (1849 - 1907) und dem Verleger Julius Heinrich Zimmermann nahm 1880 ihren Anfang mit der Ausgabe von E. Köhlers Flötenschule, Zimmermanns erstem Verlagswerk überhaupt! Die Schule und auch die Etüden Ernesto Köhlers sind bis heute Standardwerke des Flötenunterrichts. Darüber hinaus komponierte er aber auch mehr als 100 Werke für sein Instrument, von denen viele ebenfalls bei Zimmermann erschienen. Die Serenaden op. 59, op. 70 und op. 74 erschienen 1892 zum ersten Mal bei Zimmermann und liegen hier in einer revidierten Neuausgabe vor. Sie sind typische Vertreter der damals so beliebten Salonstücke, nicht allzu virtuos, aber doch technisch anspruchsvoll. / Flûte Et Piano

Sa carrière de pianiste et de compositeur débute à l'âge de huit ans ; Il fut l'élève de Nadia Boulanger. À l'âge de dix ans, Naoumoff compose et joue son propre concerto pour piano sous la direction de Yehudi Menuhin. Irène (Eneri) Gorainoff was born as Irene Biriukov on 15th November 1897 in Ostrogoschk. Her parents were an officer Biriukov and Maria Bronikowsky (1874-1928). After a short marriage the mother married Alexei Gorainoff (1872-1935), who adopted the little Irène. At the age of twelve years Irène Gorainoff was a well known pianist. She also composed and had already written over eighty works, when publisher Julius Heinrich Zimmermann signed on some of her works in 1910. In the same year she was allowed to record piano rolls on the famous Welte-Mignon reproducing piano. On 17th May 1916 she married Sergei Mikhailovich Sukhotin (1887-1926) in St. Petersburg. He was an army officer in the regiment Preobrazhensky. In December of the same year her husband became one of the murderers of Russian itinerant preacher and con­fidant of the Empress: Rasputin. After his death, Irène emigrated to France. In 1946, she married again in Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois the Russian Paul Petrovich Borovsky (1892-1955). Irène Gorainoff died on 23 January 1980 in Paris. / Piano

Alexander Nikolajewitsch Schäfer wurde am 11. September 1866 in St. Petersburg geboren. Er besuchte das Konservatorium bis 1886. Schon während seines Abschlussjahres bot der Musikverleger Julius Heinrich Zimmermann dem jungen Absolventen Verlagsverträge an. Schäfer ging als Musiklehrer an eine private Musikschule und wechselte 1891 an das Patriotische Institut, eine Mädchenschule, die wegen ihrer auf die Kinder ausgerichtete Atmosphäre einen sehr guten Ruf genoss. 1898 erhielt Schäfer ein Engagement als Dirigent des privat geführten Panajewschen Theaters. 1901 wurde er Kapellmeister des Volkshauses Kaiser Nikolaus II., das sich vornehmlich an die ärmeren Volksschichten richtete. Kurz darauf verstarb er plötzlich im Alter von nur 35 Jahren. Das vorliegende Werk ?Silhouettes' op. 18 stammt von 1885. Lediglich das 2. Heft mit den Portraits Nr. 5-9 ist noch vorhanden und wurde hier neu aufgelegt. Das 1. Heft gilt als verschollen. / Piano
