Kantate zum Reformationsfest [Rekonstruktion: Reinhold Kubik]-J.S. Bach's Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott for SATB and Orchestra.Bach's Reformation cantata based on what is probably Martin Luther's most famous hymn evolved over a period of several years. At the beginning was a Weimar cantata for Oculi Sunday 1716 now missing which was based on the hymn with an instrumental quotation in the opening aria and with the final chorale. In the Leipzig years around 1730 Bach wrote a cantata for Reformation Day using this material. It began with the first verses of Luther's hymn in a simple four-part setting and also included the other verses. Later on in the 1730s or 1740s Bach replaced the introductory chorale movement with achorale setting which was unique spacious and motet-like in its style; this uniquely in this respect incorporated the choral writing in an instrumental canon for oboes and organ continuo. The powerful opening chorus is followed by recitatives and arias which reflect the full breadth of Bach's art of word painting and emotion. One of Bach's most magnificent cantatas one of the greatest works in the history of music. In addition to the complete performance material the arrangements of movements 1 and 5 (with 3 trumpets timpani as playing score) by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach are available.

Written for SATB soloists with SATB chorus Brass Quintet and Organ this setting was inspired by the illustrations of 18th Century Japanese artist Utamaro. McCabe has selected a group of texts that are chosen to express the period of spring to autumn from the view of the Garden and it's inhabitants including the birds insects plants and animals. The texts are taken from sources as diverse as John Clare William Blake and Walt Whitman. The set was written in 2003/04 and commissioned by The John Armitage Memorial Trust.

G.F. Handel's masterful L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato have been expertly-edited by Donald Burrows to present this complete vocal score arranged for two Soprano Tenor and Bass Soli with an SATB Chorus and Orchestra. This complete edition of L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato features the 1740 1741 and 1743 scores reflecting Handel's personal changes involving alternative and additional movements. The 1740 score is a complete reconstruction requiring two Soprano  a Tenor and a Bass soloists. For the longer 1741 score Handel added extra movements toaccommodate additional soloists the complete version of which is included here. Finally the 1743 score boasts a radical change from the previous years with a removal of part three and a significant rearrangement of other movements.  L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato was first performed on the 27th of February 1740 at the Lincoln's Inn Fields theatre after just over a month of drafting. The work is a setting of a libretto by James Harris and Charles Jennens based on John Milton's two complementary yet contrasting poems about the relative virtues of happiness and melancholy.  This edition of L'Allegro Il Penseroso Ed Il Moderato presents practical versions of the score which are based on the musical schemes of Handel's performances in 1741 and 1743. For a complete vocal score of this masterpiece by one of the all-time great composers this Novello Handel Edition is authoritative.

The author of the cantata text is unknown.

Haydn composed six settings of the Mass text for the name day of Princess Maria Josepha Hemengild Esterhazy. The Nelson Mass is the third of these written between 10 July and 31 August 1798. Scored for soprano alto tenor and bass soloists SATB chorus organ and orchestra. This is the revised edition by Michael Pilkington. The text is in Latin with an introduction in English.
