Op. 106. Par REGER MAX. Max Reger?s setting of Psalm 100 is one of the ?grand style? choral-symphonic works of the classical modern repertoire. Contrapuntal skill in the tradition of Bach combines with overwhelmingly powerful expressiveness, rich in contrasts. The full harmonic and stylistic breadth of the early 20th century sings out, not only in frenetic song, but also in the search for awareness in quieter passages. Reger?s opulence, tonal and contrapuntal almost throughout, finally culminates in a double fugue with an off-stage orchestra similar to the trumpets of Jericho over ?Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott?. Ave maris stella. A 5-minute uplifting piece for SATB and piano that uses the ancient latin hymn of praise to the Virgin Mary. The verses alternate between full choir and solo or duet passages, accompanied by lush, romantic harmonies. Composed for senior school choir but would suit church choirs around the world.

Par DOVE JONATHAN. A joyful, uplifting setting of Psalm 139. The organ part, with its sparkling use of high registers, subtly evokes the stars. The Marlborough Canticles were first performed by Marlborough College Choir at St George’s Chapel Windsor in April 1996. A work that combines beautiful lyrical melodies with gentle swaying dance rhythms to tremendous effect. Arranged for SATB (Divisi) with Organ Accompaniment.
