In seguito, oltre ad avere pubblicato quasi la totalità delle composizioni del Prete Rosso l?Istituto veneziano ha corretto e attualizzato le sue più antiche edizioni alla luce delle nuove conquiste musicologiche e con una precisa attenzione a quelle che erano le istanze che provenivano dagli esecutori ?storicamente informati?. Giuseppe Tartini non ha goduto di altrettanta fortuna. Dopo alcune edizioni assai poco accurate (si potrebbe parlare piuttosto di reinterpretazioni, quali furono tra le altre quelle del leggendario violinista Fritz Kreisler e di Riccardo Zandonai), legate prevalentemente alla sopravvivenza ottocentesca di alcuni brani (in particolare il Trillo del Diavolo, la Didone Abbandonata e le variazioni L?Arte dell?Arco) nel corso del XX secolo poche edizioni davvero attendibili sono state date alle stampe, in primis quelle della collana a cura di Edoardo Farina e Claudio Scimone (Le opere di Giuseppe Tartini, Carisch) ma anche grazie all?azione isolata di violinisti (Giovanni Guglielmo) e musicologi (Enrica Bojan e Agnese Pavanello). Ancora oggi siamo ben lontani dalla possibilità di avere una moderna e completa edizione dell?opere del Maestro delle Nazioni anche se grazie all?instancabile lavoro di Sergio Durante e con l?istituzione del ?Comitato Tartini 2020? si intravedono nuovi slanci e grandi opportunità. La mancanza di edizioni attendibili per gli interpreti si è sovente riverberata sulle esecuzioni - fossero queste inserite in saggi scolastici, concorsi internazionali o recital dei più noti virtuosi - al punto che è stato quasi impossibile liberare le opere tartiniane da tutta una serie di istrionismi e di stilemi ottocenteschi che ormai si erano profondamente radicati alla percezione di queste opere. La presente edizione mira quindi non tanto a fornire una nuova edizione critica (talune, ottime, già esistono) di queste quattro Sonate che sono state scelte per la loro notorietà, rappresentatività e bellezza quanto piuttosto a garantire agli interpreti, siano essi giovani studenti o affermati professionisti, un testo coerente e corretto. Per questo motivo in aggiunta ad una parte di violino priva di segni interpretativi abbiamo ritenuto utile introdurre una seconda parte di violino con diteggiature ed indicazioni dinamiche che potranno essere di giovamento sia per gli interpreti ?tradizionali? che per quelli interessati alle prassi esecutive storiche. In E-flat major Op.102. Par SAINT-SAENS CAMILLE. The second half of the 19th century represented something of a ?Golden Age? of the violin sonata in France: influential violin sonatas such as those by Franck, Fauré and Saint-Saëns were among the successful works of this genre, inspiring many further compositions. Saint-Saëns? Violin Sonata No.2 was written in 1896 during a stay of several months by the composer in Egypt: he began the main themes of all four movements as well as the canonic trio in Luxor and Aswan. The sonata was then completed on the Nile journey back to Cairo. That same year the sonata was premiered by Saint-Saëns and Pablo Sarasate in a concert celebrating the composer?s fiftieth stage anniversary. Astoundingly, he had first appeared on stage when he was only ten years old. Of Grieg?s three Violin sonatas the great C-minor Sonata op. 45 is the best known today. And unjustly so because the two early sonatas are captivating in their joy to play and their fresh youthful tone. And what is more they can also be played by advanced students due to their somewhat lesser technical demands. Written in 1867 the G-major Violin Sonata op. 13 palpably draws on Grieg?s enthusiasm for Norwegian folk music; the lively outer movements in particular take as their model the traditional ?jumping dance.? Aside from the second print edition of 1887 revised by Grieg himself the autograph manuscript in Stockholm wasalso consulted for this edition thus offering an optimally ascertained musical text.

Edited by Ron Erickson. Sonata No.4 completed in 1948 was entitled 'No. 2' by Antheil. It appears from the list of workds he made in 1944 that of the works from the Paris years he wanted to consolidate the Sonata No. 1 withthe third and ignore the second so that all the violin and piano sonatas before 1940 would be known as one work - called Sonata No. 1. Modern notation conventions have been adapted to Antheil's chromatic-polytonal language inorder to make the text as definite and as readable as possible. In this edition poytonal key signatures sometimes are substituted for masses of accidentals.

Well known for his style of bowing his splendid tone and the clearness of his execution French violinist teacher and composer Rodolphe Kreutzer (1766-1831) composed nineteen Violin concertos and forty operas during his life time and is perhaps best known for his 42 Études or Capriccios 1796. Born in Versailles Kreutzer was initially taught by his German father who was a musician in the royal chapel with later lessons from Anton Stamitz. He quickly rose to fame as a Violinist appearing as a soloist until 1810. In 1798 when at Vienna in the service of the French ambassador Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte (later King ofSweden and Norway) Kreutzer the made the aquaintance of Beethoven and became the dedicatee of his Violin Sonata No. 9 Op. 47 (1803). Kreutzer however never played the work declaring it unplayable and incomprehensible. From 1795 until 1826 Kreutzer taught at the Conservatoire de Paris where he became co-author of the Conservatoire's Violin method with Pierre Rode and Pierre Baillot. He was also leader of the Paris Opera for a time. This volume contains Kreutzer's 42 Études which are to this day considered fundamental studies for student Violinists.

Sonatas Wq 71-74 BWV 1036 Violinsonaten nach den Trios Wq 143-147-Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's works for Violin and Harpsichord obbligato pervade his entire compositional oeuvre. The earliest works like the Sonata in D minor still numbered BWV 1036 date back to the years of study with his father yet show already a remarkable creative will of his own. The latest work the fantasia 'C. P. E. Bachs Empfindungen' in F flat minor of 1787 is characterized by the composer's highly expressive late style. The new two-volume edition of Wiener Urtext Edition contains C. P. E. Bach's complete works for Harpsichord (Piano) obbligato and Violin. Vol. 1 contains not only the sonatas Wq 71–74 and BWV 1036 but alsothe arrangements of the trios Wq 143–145 for Violin and Harpsichord most of which are included in C. P. E. Bach's autographs as well as a – previously ignored – early version of Wq 71 which like BWV 1036 grants a rare insight into the early works of the composer. Vol. 2 contains the four major sonatas of 1763 which already fascinated Johannes Brahms. Brahms not only played them in concert together with Joseph Hellmesberger but also published two of these sonatas in 1864. This volume concludes with the two late works 'Arioso' and 'Fantasie' of 1781 and 1787 respectively. With these works C. P. E. Bach bridged the gap between the late Baroque sonatas of his father and the early classical 'Klaviersonate mit begleitender Violine' [Piano Sonata with Accompanying Violin].
