The enormous range of publications for mixed choir is published in the Choir Library in separate volumes for secular and sacred repertoire. The secular repertoire is divided into two volumes of unaccompanied choral music and one volume of works with instrumental accompaniment, mostly piano. The focus of the publishing house's program is on the Romantic era here. The majority of works was therefore composed by the great choral composers of this period: Johannes Brahms, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Robert Schumann. Later composers include Max Reger, Johann Nepomuk David and Kurt Thomas, but also Einojuhani Rautavaara and Siegfried Thiele. As female composers, Fanny Hensel and Clara Schumann are represented. We wish you lots of joy at discovering and singing!Volume 1 A cappellaI. Love SongsII. Seasonal SongsIII. Nature SongsIV. As director of the Bavarian Radio Choir, Howard Arman has been actively engaged with international Christmas carols through various Christmas-related CD productions in the past years. This has resulted in a number of original arrangements for four- to eight-part mixed choir a cappella, shedding new light on well-known classics such as O du frohliche [O, you joyful], Stille Nacht [Silent Night] and Lasst uns froh und munter sein [Let us be happy and cheerful]. The first volume includes five Christmas carols from the German-speaking regions. They range from simple but harmonically intriguing settings such as Lieb Nachtigall, wach auf [Dear nightingale, wake up] to eight-part sound paintings with bell-like chimes as in O du frohliche and classical double choir settings such as Resonet in laudibus. The second volume includes five Christmas spirituals with English texts, forming a contrast to the solemn and festive character of the first. The choir can prove its swing and jazz qualities here; the stirring arrangements are a gain for classical Christmas concerts, too. Following the tradition of the spiritual, some settings also require soloists, which can, however, also be recruited from the choir if adequate singers are available. The first piece combines the spirituals It's a Birthday and Wasn't That a Mighty Day to form a medley, Ain't That a Rockin' gives a moment of tranquility before the likewise rousing spirituals Mary Had a Baby and Little David conclude the volume. In both volumes, Howard Arman provides a short preface in German and English, explaining the background of each piece and giving advice on performance.

Sephardic Folk Songs, also suitable for non-professional choirs.
ISBN 9790004412947. 7.5 x 10.5 inches.
The Sephardic culture originates from the Jewish population of Spain that was banished at the end of the 15th century and afterwards spread to the whole of the Mediterranean area, the Balkan and North Africa. Its unique Spanish dialect Ladino was preserved, finding musical expression in ballads, lyrical and paraliturgical songs for the most part. The choir conductor and composer Ohad Stolarz took eight of these Sephardic Folk Songs and arranged them as a cappella settings for four-part mixed choir. These arrangements may be performed both as a cycle and individually, being also suitable for non-professional choirs due to their lack of difficulty. The musically and harmonically colorful, partly also exotic pieces therefore present an enrichment for the program of every interculturally interested choir. The informative preface and the translations of the lyrics into German and English enable the content-related engagement with Sephardic culture, too. Further choral literature on this topic can be found in the volumes Sepharad and Aschkenaz by Alon Wallach.Audio samples: RIAS Kammerchor, dir. Jean Sibelius's Six Songs for Male Choir Op. 18 are published as Urtext with the original Finnish lyrics for the first time in this edition. Most of these stem from the Finnish national epics Kalevala and Kanteletar, but the texts of Sydameni laulu [Song of My Heart] and Metsamiehen laulu [Song of the Woodmen] are from the poet Aleksis Kivi. The individual pieces originated over a couple of years for different choirs and occasions and were only later combined by Sibelius under a common Opus number. Venematka [Boat Trip] originated as early as 1893, Saarellaa palaa [Fire on the Island] was first performed in 1895 and Sortunut aani [The Broken Voice] in 1899. Sydameni laulu was published in the same year together with Metsamiehen laulu, while Terve kuu [Greetings to the Moon] was not composed by Sibelius until 1901. The contents of the collection Op. 18 were subsequently extended, revised and repositioned by Sibelius many times; the final shape with six settings was established in 1930. Four of these settings were also arranged for mixed choir and have already been published as an Urtext edition (ChB 5372). The edition includes translations of the lyrics in German and English as well as an informative preface that is based on volume VII/2 of the complete edition Jean Sibelius Works, just like the score.

A gently contoured melody uplifts the poetry of Susan Palo Cherwien in this graceful anthem by Zebulon Highben. The text can be found in Peace, Be Still: Hymns of Susan Palo Cherwien, Volume 3 and highlights the need for unified voices singing the story of God the Creator and our need for renewal and peace. The music is largely 2-part mixed with an expressive SATB a cappella third stanza. A lovely addition to your choral season and useful throughout the year.
