The final movement of the Sonata in A major KV 331 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart the Rondo Alla Turca is one of the most famous piano pieces of all time. Once only familiar to musical experts later a universal piece for all piano pupils its opening melody is now even omnipresent as an alienated sinus tone-like mobile phone ring tone. Fazıl Say's arrangement originally created as an effective encore follows on from this popularity. After the first eight bars have been presented in original form typical elements of jazz superimposed on the still recognisable classical foundations can be discovered such as syncopation of the top notes andornamentation through chromatic blue notes embedded in the at times frenzied chains of semiquavers. In the spirit of the work's improvisatory character Say likes to perfom his Alla Turca Jazz in different combinations for example accompanied by jazz singers of with orchestra. It may appear strange that Fazıl Say who was born in Turkey and - when not on tour - is still resident in that country does not bring back Mozart's interpretation of genuine Turkish music closer to its own roots particularly as many of his compositions such as Black Earth or the Violin Sonata are characterised by a subtle amalgamation of the Classical-Romantic tradition Turkish folk music and elements of jazz. In a further Mozart arrangement the ballet music Patara premiered in Vienna in 2006 composed on the basis of the Rococo-like theme from the first movement of the same A-major Sonata (wich enjoys almost as great popularity as the Alla Turca theme) Say utilised the connection which was absent in Alla Turca albeit in the opposite direction. In the ballet music the piano symbolises Western culture and the Ney flute Oriental culture communcated atmosperically by austere percussion instrumentation and soprano vocalisation.

This selection of relatively short sacred works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart gives active choruses an opportunity to perform these pieces without having to hire an expensive instrumental ensemble. The works including the moving ?Te Deum laudamus ? (K. 141) the brilliant ?Jubilate? from ? Benedictus sit Deus? (K. 117) and the immortal ?Ave verum? are well-suited to performance in church services or concerts. Andreas Köhs has sensitively arranged the orchestral parts for organ using the original score to produce self-contained versions for chorus and organ. The choral scene is in a state of change! On the one hand more and more choirs are lacking in male voices yet at the same time more and more female choirs are looking for high-quality literature beyond folksong arrangements. Bärenreiter is responding to these general trends with the publication of arrangements for three-part female choir (SMA) of well-known frequently-performed works.The first editions to be published are Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “Coronation Mass” K.317 (BA 5691) a much-performed work within the standard repertoire and the “Missa brevis in D major” K. 194 (BA 5690-90) a charmingalternative for use in church services. arranged for Oboe and Piano-The Oboe Quartet in F major K. 370/368b was written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in early 1781. The quartet originally arranged for oboe violin viola and cello is presented in this edition for Oboe with Piano accompaniment. In 1780 Mozart was invited to Munich to visit Elector Karl Theodor who had commissioned the opera Idomeneo for a carnival celebration. While in Munich Mozart renewed an acquaintance with Friedrich Ramm a virtuoso oboist in the Munich orchestra. It was for Ramm that Mozart composed the quartet in order to show off his virtuosity and the improvements that had been made to the oboe at that time. One way that this piece showed off theinstrument was the use of the 'high F' above the staff a note rarely played in any repertoire previously written for the oboe. This piece is a work of chamber music but it has elements that harken to other musical genres and requires a fair amount of virtuosity. Because of its large amount of virtuosic playing on the part of the oboe and the large degree to which the strings simply accompany the oboist it almost resembles a concerto but with only with four players instead of an entire orchestra. Despite this there are also a number of places within the work that require ensemble playing for example the famous 13-bar passage in the finale in which the oboe plays in common time against a 6/8 accompaniment.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart a écrit non seulement un concerto pour le basson, mais aussi une Sonate pour basson et violoncelle (en si bémol majeur, KV 292) dont les origines sont obscures. Le manuscrit original a été perdu, et les seuls documents existants sont imprimés publiés après sa mort. Bien que l'instrument à cordes dans ce travail est que compte tenu de la fonction d'instrument d'accompagnement, le basson a le rôle principal. Il est donc naturel de penser moins d'un duo jouant sur un pied d'égalité, mais plutôt d'une sonate avec basse continue accompagnement. Cette édition transforme donc la partie de violoncelle dans une partie basse continue de telle sorte que le travail peut maintenant être joué comme un 'normal' sonate basson avec accompagnement de piano - une belle addition au répertoire!
