The choral collection Mozart · Haydn contains sacred music of two famous pairs of composers from the Viennese classical school: father and son Leopold and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and the brothers Joseph and Johann Michael Haydn. Works selected for this collection include Latin and German settings, canons, motets and movements from the Ordinary of the Mass for a cappella choir or with keyboard accompaniment. The choice of works has been made not only with a view to the broadest possible practical use, but also to providing a selection ranging in difficulty from easy to moderately difficult. A good six years following its first performance in Milan [1773] a second version of Exsultate, jubilate was completed for a performance on Trinity Sunday in 1779. It has survived in a manuscript from Salzburg. This “Salzburg version, ” which was discovered in 1978, differs from the “Milan version” primarily through the use of flutes instead of oboes and also through the use of two different texts for the first aria. In the first version the text refers to Christmas, whereas in the second version it refers to the festival of Trinity. Mozart’s autograph of the Milan version had been thought to be missing since the second world war and it has only been accessible in the BibliotekaJagiellónska in Kraków for a little over a decade. On 30th September 1791 a few months before his death the opera ?Die Zauberflote? (The Magic Flute) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was given its first performance. It was remarkable that despite his ill health and his disastrous financial situation he was able to compose a work of such comic genius. Mozart composed the overture in the two days before the premier of the opera and it is on this overture that this transcription is based. To perform the work ?a la Mozart? only the timpani part should be used the additional percussion parts have been added by the arranger and are therefore optional.Mozart 40th SymphonyThe Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived atragically short life of thirty-five years. Towards the end of his life in the summer of 1788 he wrote three symphonies in the span of a little over six weeks. His Symphony No.40 in G Minor was one of those great works. This setting of the first movement from that Symphony provides ample demonstration of the composer's grace inventiveness and pervasive sense of humour which can be found throughout his music.
