Mozart's penultimate opera The Magic Flute presents an inextricable mixture of the unspoken and sung word high principle and low cunning the refined and the earthy the sublime and the comic for which reasons the rendering of the original German text into English has always been a problem. The present complete translation by the most distinguished translator of opera libretti of our time Andrew Porter magically succeeds in giving us a wonderfully lucid and musical singing text that preserves all the authentic contrasts and yet has imposed on it a unity that derives from Mr Porter's sensibility and acute intelligence.

'Klassik für Kinder' wants to introduce clarinet pupils to the beauty of Baroque, Classical and Romantic concert literature. Cautiously, not only original clarinet literature was taken up, but catchy tunes and themes from the opera (The Freeshooter, The Magic Flute and others) and the concert hall (Four Seasons, Capriccio Italy, Reverie and others) were used as well. The edition starts with a piece from the Renaissance period, followed by the great composers of the Baroque, European Classical and Romantic eras and completed by several discoveries off the common concert programmes (Blasius, Reinagel, Sullivan). Four centuries of music history which will make the pupils enjoy classical music. Six Mozart Opera Arias. Par MARTLAND STEVE. With Wolf-Gang, the British composer Steve Martland, ironizingly, follows the 18-century tradition of wind music ensembles with which underpaid musicians made some money on the side. Martland arranged six arias from Don Giovanni, The Magic Flute and Le Nozze di Figaro for wind octet, adapting them to today‘s possible playing techniques. By adding cor anglais and soprano saxophone, it was possible to have each aria played by a different combination of instruments so that each aria stands out against the others with regard to the sound.
