Adam Granger self-published the first edition of Grangerâ??s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar in 1979. A second edition was published in 1994. Now Mel Bay Publications presents the third edition of the book.
This 236-page book is the most extensive and best-documented collection of fiddle tunes for the flatpicking guitar player in existence, and includes reels, hoedowns, hornpipes, rags, breakdowns, jigs and slip-jigs, presented in Southern, Northern, Irish, Canadian, Texas and Old-time styles.
There are 508 fiddle tunes referenced under 2500 titles and alternate titles. The titles are fully indexed, making the book doubly valuable as a reference book and a source book.
In this new edition, all tunes are typeset, instead of being handwritten as they were in the previous editions, making the tabs easier to read.
The tunes in Grangerâ??s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar are presented in Easytab, a streamlined tablature notation system designed by Adam specifically for fiddle tunes.
The book comes with a link which gives access to mp3 recordings by Adam of all 508 tunes, each played once at a moderate tempo, with rhythm on one channel and lead on the other.
Also included in Grangerâ??s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar are instructions for reading Easytab, descriptions of tune types presented in the book, and primers on traditional flatpicking and rhythm guitar. Additionally, there are sections on timing, ornamentation, technique, and fingering, as well as information on tune sources and a history of the collection.
Mel Bay also offers The Granger Collection, by Bill Nicholson, the same 508 tunes in standard music notation.

As one of the most respected liturgical composers of our time, Michael Joncas has earned his reputation by writing music for the Church that proclaims the Scriptures in song, fits the ritual moment, and speaks to the heart. This new collection will no doubt reaffirm his fine reputation and reestablish once again his valuable contribution to the art of pastoral music making. The rich, lyrical Joncas style is evident in the title song, As the Deer, a beautiful setting of Psalm 42 usable as a responsorial or processional, scored for harp, winds, and strings. Exultate Justi, Cantate Domino, and Wisdom Is Calling are grand processionals, scored for brass and organ. There's also a lovely setting of the Francis Patrick Sullivan text A Shepherd for solo voice, and Joncas's ever popular Spirit of God within Me, with text by Timothy Dudley-Smith, is recorded with a full complement of instruments. Joncas's scholarly research and personal love of the Liturgy of the Hours has led him to compose a new setting of evening prayer entitled St. Francis Evening Prayer. Composed in a classical style, this new and accessible setting should be explored by any community considering the Liturgy of the Hours.

‘Do, a deer,’ sang Maria von Trapp in The Sound of Music. That method of a capella pedagogy is called tonic sol-fa, a form of solfege invented in the early 1800’s by one Sarah Ann Glover and later developed by John Curwen, Zoltan Kodaly and others over the years. The basic precept was that ‘do’ was a moveable tonic note for any key. Each note in the scale had a name and with some simple punctuation, any Vocal line could be rendered. This score of Handel’s Messiah is a fascinating glimpse into an inventive notation system that proved useful and popular for many years. The score contains a discussion of performance issues and an explanation ofthe tonic sol-fa system.

For accomplished vocalist Theresa Donohoo, liturgical music has always been a family affair, most often traveling and performing with her husband Rory Cooney (with their son in tow) and family friend Gary Daigle. Now, with Family Resemblance, Theresa sings of the larger family that we are in Christ. The songs on this recording are a testament to the ups and downs, joys and trials of the family of God, and the ever-present faith that leads us through. Theresa seemlessly interprets the trusting and faithful text of The Deer's Cry: I Arise, a simply magnificent piece of music. Too Many Walls and Lost and Found, with their themes of conflict, forgiveness, and reconciliation, are re-recorded here (originally from Rory Cooney's musical, Lost and Found.) Finally, Theresa delivers an upbeat and inspiring rendition of Lord of the Dance, bringing to life the story of Jesus especially for children. Throughout the recording, Theresa's voice is at once strong and tender with a spirited Irish lilt, stirring the emotions of the soul. A wonderful collection by a inspired vocalist! Â .
