Whether for "Clementine," "Amazing Grace," the "Drunken Sailor" or Spanish folklore - in "Four for One," Felice Deho has created four stimulating guitar accompaniments for each of the eight traditional and three original melodies. The four different accompaniments to each song are clearly arranged on one (double) page so that the player can easily shift between the different versions while playing. An experienced guitarist and teacher, Deho subtly increases the level of difficulty in each of his suggested patterns. The book can thus be used in a number of ways: for beginners and more advanced players, as well as for teaching single students or groups. In addition to being fun to play with others, "Four for One" is intended to provide performers with models that will stimulate them to invent their own accompaniments.

With his Venti pezzi per pianoforte (1938), the Hungarian composer Sándor Veress (1907-92) wanted to create a collection of piano miniatures on folk melodies destined for use in the concert hall as well as for teaching purposes. Each piece is based on one or more songs and dances from different Hungarian speaking areas, which are re-elaborated and presented in a carefully conceived alternation of character, musical writing and technical difficulty. The result is a multi-colored overview of Hungarian folk music: songs of a pathetic or even dramatic nature are contrasted with lighter and high-spirited pieces, interspersed with dances of varying types, among which a homogeneousblock stands out formed by the group of Csárdás, a typical tavern dance also used by Liszt. The Venti pezzi per pianoforte represent the culmination of the extensive ethnomusicological research made by Veress in the ’30s and ‘40s, while working as assistant to László Lajtha and to Béla Bartók, and at the same time carrying out field work in Hungary and neighboring countries. The composer intended that this collection should play a fundamental role of mediation between folklore and western “art” music, by revitalizing the language from within, without resorting to the abstractions of the experimentation being developed in Europe at the time. During his lifetime Veress never succeeded in publishing the complete version of the Venti pezzi per pianoforte, but issued various selections of the pieces, two of which remained totally unpublished. The present critical edition prepared by Giada Viviani reconstructs the complete text of the Venti pezzi per pianoforte on the basis of manuscript sources kept at the Paul Sacher Foundation in Basel: the musical scores, with fingering by Jakub Tchorzewski, are accompanied by an introductory essay on the context in which the collection was created, including a description of the state of the sources and a detailed apparatus criticus of the textual variants.

For decades, pupils (aged 6+) have been learning the basics of piano playing with plenty of imagination and creativity by using the popular three-volume piano method Piano Kids by Hans-Gunter Heumann. In 2014 the method was revised and has since been published in a revised and expanded new edition: New songs and illustrations breathe new life into the standard work and adjust it to the realityof life of today's first-time piano players. The educational concept of Piano Kids, resulting from the combination of textbooks, additional activity books as well as the large number of themed tune books, is now completed by tune books that are companions to the textbooks. These new tune books contain a wide range of very easy pieces for beginners which are in line with the progress of the textbooks andprovide the young pianists with age-appropriate playing literature from the very first piano lesson. Well-known folklore melodies, upbeat compositions in the style of pop, rock and jazz music as well as the first little masterpieces by Mozart, Beethoven & Co. motivate and stimulate the pupils and add variety to the music lessons. Volume 1 starts with several pieces for piano duet which will easily motivate beginners without demanding too much. All pieces are limited to the five-note range while nevertheless covering the whole spectrum of styles: from folk melodies via classical pieces by composers such as Gurlitt, Turk or Bartok to modern compositions from the areas of pop, rock and jazz music. Alongside Vol. 2 of the piano method, Volume 2 extends the pitch range and heightens the rhythmic demands. Apart from the wide rangeof songs from the areas of folk, rock and pop music, the young musicians get to know the first easy piano pieces by Mozart, Beethoven & Co. Many little 'treats' will have a lasting motivating effect on the pianists, like e.g. the Baby Elephant Walk by Henri Mancini or The Entertainer by Scott Joplin. These pieces have been arranged by Hans-Gunter Heumann in such a way that they do not demand too much of the children but motivate them when playing these famous melodies.

Frigyes Hidas (1928-2007) was the most prolific Hungarian composer for wind ensembles, and his works are the most often performed. His worldwide popularity is based on works such as Balettzene (Ballet music), Vidam zene (Cheerful music), El nem tancolt balett (Undanced ballet), Requiem and Save the Sea. His folk song suites, which are enormously popular in his homeland, are fine examples of Hidas' mature style in the genre of folk song arrangements. The first suite works up nine folk songs of differing character and atmosphere, while the second, with its recurrent structure, makes use of five melodies, creating a modern harmonic environment around them and thereby highlighting even more the beauty of the melodies. To perform these works effectively, ample technique is required, as well as an ability to shape the music freely. Highly recommended for ensembles with an interest in Hungarian wind music and folklore.

Though the work bearing this title is a portrait of childhood, it is a childhood quite different from the purely gameplaying and dreamlike childhood that is customarily represented. The childhood described here is carrying the seed, in all its purity, of all positive and negative qualities to be found the fully-grown men: a childhood both angelic and diabolical, and indeed very close to Henry James' The Turn of the Screw which was the direct inspiration for this monodrama. Its growth follows the innumerable sudden changes, turns and contrasts of the unsophisticated spirit. There is hardly any development at all, as each idea gives birth to the next or rejects the previons one, being object to every impulse, every tempest, every flux, every fear and delight. After a dreamlike introduction, in which two simple melodies stand out, comes a sudden awakening, Allegro, stamped all over with lavish and forever regenerating dynamism. A sudden halt leads a kind of outburst from the most simple folklore is singing, in regular, repeated notes. Again the question mark leads us to another melody, Tranquillo, of a sweet tempo, but brilliantly decorated with counter-point, its cursive traits leading this time to a kind of roguish march (Vigoroso).Yet soon there emerges a melancholic chant, Largo, in the Cromorne's timbre, and then, in the highest register of the Trumpet there reappears like a metamorphosed memory, the theme of the second movement. Passing other episodes, we come to Tempo giusto, insistent and glorious, interrupted by other passionate figures, cut off by unsettling silent moments and taken up again in always accelerating volleys.

Composer Simon Holt 's The Legend Of Melusine was commissioned in 2014 by the Southbank Centre to celebrate the return of the Royal Festival Hall Organ, and to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Royal College of Organists. The work lasts around 12 minutes and is arranged for Boy Treble Voice and Organ. This unique work sees the Organ as an accompaniment and complement to both the narration and singing of the Boy Treble throughout. The words of The Legend Of Melusine , written by Holt himself, portrays a version of the Melusine myth of European folklore, a feminine spirit of the water that turns into a serpent from the waist down. This wonderfully engaging tale ismatched by the superb vocal melodies and accompanying Organ work. .
