Par MONTEVERDI CLAUDIO. Monteverdis 'Marien-Vesper', das erste große Oratorium der Musikgeschichte, noch vor wenigen Jahrzenten ein nahezu unbekanntes Werk, zählt heute zum festen Bestand des internationalen Musiklebens. Bislang fehlte eine praktische Ausgabe des Werkes, die einerseits die historischen und stilistischen Forderungen der Originalausgabe von 1610 erfüllt, anderseits nicht vor einer Anpassung an die Gegebenheiten der konzertanten Praxis des 20. Jahrhunderts zurückschreckt. Unter diesem Gesichtspunkt hat Jürgen Jürgens, Gründer und Leiter des Monteverdi - Chores Hamburg, als Resultat intensiven Quellenstudiums und mehrjähriger praktischer Erprobung, die erste 'Praktische Urtext-Ausgabe' dieses Werkes vorgelegt, für dessen Einspielung auf Schallplatte er gleich drei Preise erhielt: Grand Prix du Disque, Preis der englischen Schallplattenkritik, Schallplatte des Jahres - High Fidelity, USA. Die Partitur kommentiert ausführlich Geschichte, Quellen und Bestimmung des Werkes sowie die Aufführungspraxis, welche u.a. auch auf eine bewusste Doppelkonzeption hinweist: eine authentische Alternativ-Besetzung besteht in Singstimmen und Basso continuo ohne instrumentale Mitwirkung. Die bei Monteverdi unumgänglich notwendigen aufführungspraktischen Vorschläge sind vom Urtext deutlich abgehoben, der bezifferte Bass ist realisiert und ein Verzeichnis der abweichenden Lesarten innerhalb der zeitgenössischen Quellen ist beigegeben. Basso Continuo-Claudio Monteverdi?s Vespro Della Beata Vergine is without doubt one of the most popular sacred works of the 17th century. Apart from the many available recordings it is frequently performed in its entirety or in parts. The Urtext edition of this well-known work has unusual origins. It originated from a graduate seminar at the University of North Texas under the direction of the Monteverdi specialist Hendrik Schulze.The result is an edition which combines the latest in musicological research specifically with the needs of the performer in mind. This has led for instance to a divergent evaluation of the ?Lauda Jerusalem?oriented towards performance practice with numerous additional accidentals and a new interpretation of the melodic variants from the different part books.These new musical and performance practice insights make a modern interpretation of this 400-year-old work possible.- Scholarly-critical Urtext edition orientated towards performance practice- Detailed critical commentary (English) in the full score- Movements 10 13 and 14 are included in their original high clef in the appendix of the full score.- These movements are also available with Piano reduction as copy on request.

Vespro Della Beata Vergine-This edition is designed to meet the needs of both the scholar and the performer. It contains the complete music of all fourteen compositions as in Monteverdi's original print plus the psalm 'Lauda Jerusalem' and the two Magnificats in a choice of pitches.
