At times Romantic, at other times with a jazzy touch, the Choral collection Bruckner. Secular choral music is full of exciting discoveries and new arrangements at various levels of difficulty. Anton Bruckner’s secular choral music is often overshadowed by his great symphonies and sacred choral works – unfairly, as choral experts Simon Halsey and Jan Schumacher prove with their small but fine selection of choral music inspired by secular texts. Bruckner left only a few movements for mixed choir; instead, his music for male voices constitutes a far larger body of work. For this collection, renowned arrangers from Germany, England, Denmark, and Italy have specially reworked the most beautiful of these choral movements for SATB, enabling this great repertoire to be performed by mixed choirs. Two original SATB compositions are also included. Furthermore, the choral collection features arrangements of songs originally written for solo voice and piano with texts by such poets as Heinrich Heine and Emanuel Geibel. Another highlight is an arrangement of the Adagio from Bruckner’s String Quintet WAB 112, which Heribert Breuer has created for choir to a text by Georg Trakl.- 16 SATB settings, several with keyboard accompaniment- Selected by Simon Halsey and Jan Schumacher- Modern SATB arrangements of male-voice works and solo songs, as well as original compositions - Affordable complete volume (editionCHOR) as well as separate editions available in print and digitally.- Introductory price valid until 31.10.2023, then 27.00 EUR (editionCHORLEITUNG) and 15.00 EUR (editionCHOR, minimum order: 20 copies)

'In publishing this collection of choral works we think with gratitude of our fellow countryman, Ferenc Liszt, one of those who have energized Hungarian musical life. We are conscious of a great debt, which we would like to repay at least in part. We are obliged to do so by Hungarian, European and universal musical culture, but perhaps even more by respect for Hungarian traditions and our duty to preserve them. Hence this publication, the seven works in which are appearing now in print for the first time in Hungary, and for the same reason this collection contains a complete list of Liszt's choral works.' The collection, designed for ecumenical use, offers a broad selection of choral settings for the church year, times of the day, praise and thanks, the Ordinary, etc. It includes works from from the 17th century to the present, and presents a range of various styles (including gospel and sacred pop). Between 1834 and 1847 Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy composed a total of 28 songs for mixed voices, i.e. for two female (soprano and alto) and two male (tenor and bass) voices each. The pieces are arranged so that they can be sung by four individual singers as well as by smaller ensembles or large choirs. The composer had almost two-thirds of these works published by Breitkopf and Hartel in the collections opp. 41, 48 and 59, combining partly already existing and partly newly composed songs into a loose cycle of six songs each. The purpose of such occasional music was clear to him: ... the most natural music of all is when four people go for a walk together, in the forest, or on a boat, and then immediately carry the music with them and in them. The present volume contains all the songs published and unpublished during his lifetime, as well as their versions, which owe their various performance contexts.

Between 1820 and 1847, Felix Mendelssohn composed a total of 38 songs for a cappella male voices. Many of these were written for his own use at home or in the company of friends. He also liked to personally gift or dedicate these songs to others. This recording by the male voices of the SWR Vokalensemble under conductor Frieder Bernius affords the opportunity to enjoy these wonderful compositions that are among the least explored parts of Mendelssohn’s vast oeuvre.

Among the numerous Requiem settings of the 19th century, only very few are scored for male voices. Although several compositions (by, amongst others, Max Reger and Peter Cornelius) are designated 'Requiem', these are usually only single-movement works, not settings of the entire text of the ordinary. To date, only four complete settings for male choir - by Luigi Cherubini, Franz Liszt, Hugo Kaun and Lorenzo Perosare - are known. With the first edition of the Requiem by Johann Christian Heinrich Rinck for solo voices, male choir and organ, a further work is being made available for performance. Rinck, celebrated as the Rhenish Bach and as a worldwide famous composer, wrote it in 1836. Score available separately - see item CA.4083300.

Composed by Marcel Dupre, Laudate is the last of the Four Motets. Written for a mixed SATB and two organs, the lyrics are in Latin and the volume includes all the scores: female soprano and alto, male tenor and bass and the two organ scores. The piece is introduced by the two organs and the male voices are the first to start singing (tenor, followed quickly by the bass). The full SATB then sings together, sometimes alternated by the organs and the organ parts include an outstanding toccata. Laudate is an amazing way to finish this series with a triumphant and glorious celebration of God. The organ scores require some upper intermediate skills, with the knowledge of pedals and the vocal parts, quite demanding, evolve in polyphony and polyrhythm. Marcel Dupre is a French composer and virtuoso organist who won the Prix de Rome in 1914. He became famous when he played the works of Bach in its totality from memory in 1920. He later became the professor of many renowned students at the Paris Conservatoire such as Olivier Messiaen, Jean Langlais and Pierre Cochereau amongst others.

With its three-part settings for mixed choir, the Chor zu dritt series is aimed at the large number of choirs which cannot do fulljustice to the mainly four-part choral literature with its division in high and deep male voices.Complementing Vol. 5, O little Townof Bethlehem, the choir expert Wilfried Fischer continues his successful series with Christmas music in Vol. 6, Machet die Tore weit. Baroque cantata settings and motets for the Christmas season by renowned composers like Bach and Telemann were arranged for three-part choir, some with accompaniment. These arrangements enable choirs with a small number of male voices to sing even large-scale works in Christmas concerts. Content J.S. Bach: Gloria in excelsis Deo J.S.
