Bach: Complete Organ Works Vol. 4 Toccatas and Fugues / Individual Works - with CD-ROM - ed. by Jean-Claude Zehnder Eagerly anticipated The first two Bach volumes (5 and 6) were enthusiastically acclaimed by experts. Harald Vogel, for example, wrote: This is how I ve always imagined a good Bach edition. And since the expectations keep growing, the benchmark has been raised very high for Volume 4, Toccatas (and Fugues), which contains the famous D-minor Toccata BWV 565. The editor of Volume 4, the Swiss organist Jean-Claude Zehnder, has amply proven his mettle as a Bach specialist here. Of particular interest in this book is the Canzona in d BWV 588. Written before 1707, this early work is found in a contemporary copy by Johann Gottlieb Preller with embellishments, fingerings and a closing cadenza; this version is printed in the Appendix. The enclosed CD-ROM contains early versions, further ornamented versions, and pieces that can clearly no longer be attributed to Bach. Important Note for MAC users The version of the Edirom program delivered on CD can only run on Apple computers under the current operating system Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). The installation of the Bach volume on Intel-based 64-bit-capable processors with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) systems is only possible with an update which you can download here (c. 150 KB).

“As one of the most famous contributors to classical music ever to have lived, Johann Sebastian Bach's (1685-1750) catalogue is extensive. Moreover, being an organist himself, his Organ works are significant and remain ever-popular to this day. When French organist, Marcel Dupré (1886-1971) compiled the series of Bach's Complete Organ Works, it was well-received, and to this day remains popular with all organists. The eighth volume includes a favoured selection of Bach's works, including 21 chorales, and his Prelude and Fugue in E flat. In addition, Dupré's annotations in Complete Organ Works comprise fingerings, rules on technique and instructions on ornamentation, among other aspects. This compilation of J. S. Bach's most loved compositions for the Organ cannot be missed by aspiring performers of the instrument.â€.

The B.A.C.H. motif has been known and used for centuries, but enjoyed a great revival in the late 19th century as composers paid homage to the composer J.S. Bach. It derives from the German nomenclature, and is expressed in standard notation as Bb-A-C-B.
The Fantasia And Fugue On B.A.C.H. is one of the most famous Organ works of Franz Liszt (1811-1886). The piece was intended for the inauguration of the famous Ladegast Organ at Merseburg Cathedral, but sadly, it wasn't finished in time. Liszt then revised the work in 1870 and produced the version that survives today. A well-loved piece, no organist's library iscomplete without it.
