The Reason it looks "unuseable" is because it is probably in French lute tablature where they use letters instead of numbers as in Italian. A= Open, B= 1st fret, and so on. hope it helps.
The music prints unusably, because the notation font has been replaced with what looks like a font of renaissance markings in place of notes on the staff.
