The Adagietto's gently romantic, almost wistful, main
theme insists on being heard over increasing protests
from the lower strings. They all eventually agree on a
unison couple of bars which lead to a C major
quasi-march in which the violas and cellos attempt to
carry off a similarly romantic tune to an orthodox
pizzicato accompaniment from the violins and basses.
The whole things ends up somewhat skewed before the
main theme returns in modified form. It is followed by
a lively (very lively!) Pr...(+)
