Written for the graduation of choir conducting of Kees van der Linden at The Hague Conservatory these five pieces are based upon translated Japanese Haiku. The author of the texts is unknown. As in many of these Haiku the subject often is nature.

The form of most of the pieces is rather traditional: Cyclic forms (ABA) are most prominent and the cyclic form of this structure is resembled in the tempi of the whole cyclus: slow-slow-fast-slow-slow.

The last poem connects to the first poem thematically: The first poem is "The Misty Moon", while the last is "The Rich Brocade of Night".

The first performance of these pieces was in Delft on june 5th 1994 by New Chamber Choir Delft conducted by Kees van der Linden, and subsequently they were performed on Kees' officical graduation on june 6th 1994 in the Arnol Schonberg Hall of the Royal Conseratory in The Hague.

Next performance will be in Haarlem (The Netherlands) on october 2nd 2011
