This 4-movement suite is based on authentic folktunes from the beautiful southern province in France: the Provence. The composer used an harmonic language respecting the popular characteristics, but on the other hand also contains some spicy notes (... just like the wellknown Provençal sauce! ...). The instrumentation is very colourful, paying a lot of attention to the different timbres of both brass and wood winds as well as to the percussion section.Every movement has its own character: Un Ange a fa la crido (= An angel brought the creed / credo) is like a bourrée, Adam e sa Coumpagnou (= Adam and his companion) is an old love song, Lou Fustié (= the carpenter)a fast dance and finally Lis Escoubo (= a whistle tune / popular ballad) is a farandole. In the latter, the old tradition of folk musicians who play a whistle with one hand and a drum with the other hand, is clearly represented during the first presentations of the one and only theme)Although this piece is not too demanding, a well balanced band is necessary to perform it successfully. Thanks to the contrasts and the varying colours, it keeps on holding the attention.

Singapura Suite was commissioned by Singapore's Ministry of Education Extracurricular Activities Branch to serve as a compulsory piece for the 1999 Singapore Youth Festival.Singapura is the original name of Singapore in Malay, the native language there. Because Singapore is one of the most important harbors in the world, this two-piece work opens with a seaman's dance. An authentic melody, Chan Mali Chan, is woven into the middle of this first part, whose ABA form becomes clear through the recapitulation of the seaman's dance in a somewhat altered form.Singapore is also a dynamic city-state alive with excitement, thus the second part begins with a fitting dance, a fastbourrée. As contrast there is a second authentic melody, Dayung Sampan, a more easygoing sailing song. This short but curious suite ends in high spirits with a recapitulation of the beginning.

La musica tradizionale è l’immagine delle molte etnie di questa citt -stato. I due movimenti di questa composizione si ispirano a canti tradizionali della Malesia. Il primo movimento sviluppa quattro canti tradizionali di carattere contrastante e contrastato. Il secondo movimento è basato sui canti Lenggang Kangkung e Katang Lompat, che, come d’abitudine in oriente, descrivono animali e l’ambiente in cui vivono legandoli a simbolismi, e un canto tradizionale in occasione di matrimoni. After Israel (Rikudim), Hungary (Puszta) and France (Suite Provencale) it was Scotland, with its famous highlands, that was to be a source of inspiration for Jan Van der Roost. This splendidly instrumented work successfully combines 20th-century musical language with the antique elements deriving from its theme - for example, in the first movement we immediately find an ancient Greek asymmetrical rhythm. The second movement takes us on an adventurous journey to those astonishing geological wonders, the Meteoras the third movement presents a picture of the Delphic dancers, in its title the fourth movement indicates the form used in it, which preserves the unity between the thousands-of-years-old building and its contrasting environment, echoing to the music of the bouzouki. In the suite the composer expertly exploits the possibilities of instrumentationoffered by the wind orchestra, this extremely effective work can be a rewarding concert piece for any ensemble. Es entstand im Auftrag des Ungarischen Rundfunks, seine Erstaufführung fand 1982 statt. Das grossartig instrumentierte Werk vereint erfolgreich die musikalische Sprache des 20. Jahrhunderts mit den vom Thema vorgegebenen, antiken Elementen. Ein Beispiel hierzu ist gleich im ersten Satz ‚Thessaloniki' ein altgriechischer, asymmetrischer Rhythmus. Suite Siciliana is a true tribute to this beautiful island, a piece composed by seven dances in the musical form typical of the baroque period. Divertimento, an early work of Franco Cesarini, illustrates the composer's love of popular song. A piece characterised by skillful instrumentation and meticulous attention to balance and form. Le Cortège du Roi Renaud is a suite in five parts based on tales that originate in southern European folk songs dating back as far as the 16th century. Pastorale de Provence, a suite in four movements, was written by Franco Cesarini in memory of the great Provençal composer Darius Milhaud. As the title says, Greek Folk Dances is entirely in the sign of Greek dances starting with a kalamatianos, followed by a zeibekiko. The piece ends with a hasapiko. A perfect mix of new and less new repertoire, perfectly composed and arranged for double wind quintet by Franco Cesarini and beautifully performed by the Rovereto Wind Ensemble!

On retrouve dans la Septième Suite en sol mineur HWV 432 tous les genres en vogue à cette époque, synthèse en miniature des « goûts réunis », provenant de France, d’Allemagne ou d’Italie. La Passacaille en sol mineur, parmi les pièces pour clavier les plus célèbres de Haendel, clôt la Suite en une série de courtes variations : mélodiques, rythmiques, en jeu inversé, la dernière variation résumant la série de variations, par le jeu arpégé aux deux mains de rapides doubles croches.
