De Braziliaanse componist Antônio Carlos Jobim (1927-1994) schreef een aantal heuse standards. Die bekannteste Interpretation von Desafinado - was soviel wie schräg klingend“ heißt - ist sicherlich die des Saxophonisten Stan Getz. Avec Vicinius de Moraes et João Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim (1927-1994) est considéré comme le père de la bossa nova, un style musical qui se caractérise par un souple balancement et qui évolue sur les rythmes de la samba brésilienne. Carlos Jobim a composé de nombreuses chansons qui sont devenues la fois des classiques de la musique populaire brésilienne et du jazz : Corcovado, Chega de Saudade, The Girl From Ipanema et Desafinado (1959) qui connut un succès planétaire.
