Sing Pop A Cappella is a collection of a cappella arrangements of fantastic pop songs old and new by renowned teacher singer and director Gitika Partington. Her arrangements are used by choirs across the UK and she emphasises that being able to read music is not necessary. Rewarding and enjoyable Book Three continues her project to bring people together through the power of song. What's great about Gitika Partington's Sing Pop A Cappella series is how she understands that to make great music or to sing a great song it's not necessary to be able to sight-read. It may be useful but shehas learned that there are other ways to communicate music namely through ear training repetition and gesture. Her arrangements five of which appear in this book have enabled youth and community choirs to spring up across the country making singing truly and universally accessible. Included in this book are wonderfully rich a cappella arrangements of Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers Black Is The Colour Of My True Love's Hair Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up Adele's Rolling In The Deep and a huge favourite Sway (Quien Sera). Vocal scores for these innovative and enjoyable arrangements are included in standard notation although Partington recommends learning by ear as something equally beneficial. To aid with this the accompanying download card includes five tracks of audio for each song. One features a full performance demonstration while the other four each focus on either soprano alto tenor or bass. The easy download of these tracks makes learning efficient and fun as you are able to listen wherever you are. The great thing about a cappella singing is that it can be done anywhere with limited resources with members who don't necessarily have any musical training. Partington has created a

Singing, especially singing in small groups, is a valuable and even the most natural musical activity - that is what Paul Hindemith (1895-1963) firmly believed: 'Everybody has got a voice ... A choir is the least demanding and at the same time best educational tool.' And that is why singing had always been part of his teaching activities, be it while trying and practising musical-theoretical tasks, be it while rehearsing old and modern choral settings. No wonder that the composer had dealt with choral music all his life, addressing himself to all different kinds of vocal ensembles: to mixed choirs, male-voice and children's choirs, professional choirs and trained singers. He developed his a-cappella style during his training with Arnold Mendelssohn and Bernhard Sekles at the Hoch Conservatoire in Frankfurt. As a consequence, the sketch books from his student days also contain three-part vocal settings on cantus firmi. The sacred choral works presented here (1. Christus, der ist mein Leben, 2. Erhalt uns, Herr, bei deinem Wort, 3. Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland, 4. Gott des Himmels) are not only interesting as compositional studies, but also as sonorous and catchy choral music which can be easily performed by any good church choir.

The choirbook Women of Our World is more than a simple song collection: In easy two- to three-part arrangements for women's voices, 40 pieces in 25 different languages from more than 30 countries are gathered here. Singable transcriptions for each piece as well as pronunciation guides and translations in the appendix enable an immediate access. Introductory texts inform on the origin and cultural background of the songs; chord symbols allow an instrumental accompaniment, too. Unique for choirbooks of this kind though are the contributions from women of international origin living in Germany; they are presented in portraits and describe their personal relation to singing in a choir. Women of Our World is the result of the yearslong work of editor Hayat Chaoui with international song repertoire as choir leader, singer and consultant. An interview with Mrs. Chaoui on the origin of the edition is found on our blog (German only). This praiseworthy resource could be used to support a range of choral projects, especially perhaps where songs might usefully be taught by rote. Barbershop singing is often thought of as a genre of music when, in fact, it is a style of arranging. Any song can be arranged in the barbershop style, provided that the arranger be familiar with the tenets of this originally American--though now global--art form. Arranging Barbershop provides this framework. It follows in the footsteps of arranging legends, both from the early days of barbershop and those since the preservationist movement, including our modern, living arrangers. All of these artists shaped barbershop to what it is today: a vibrant, unique musical experience that has the capacity to be compelling both for the singers and the eager listeners. This book is intended to empower current and future generations of barbershop arrangers of all skill levels, providing them the tools and knowledge they need to bring their creations to life. Arranging Barbershop is divided into four volumes: 1) Getting Started, 2) The Arranging Journey, 3) Visions of Excellence, and 4) Learn from the Experts. Each volume is meant to be standalone but also a part of the greater whole: ⢠Vol. 1, âGetting Started,â provides foundational tools and approaches for the budding arranger. ⢠Vol. 2, âThe Arranging Journey,â seeks to provide guidance for arrangers at three levels: beginning, intermediate, and advanced. 714 pages! Vol. 3, âVisions of Excellence,â is a virtual roundtable with 38 of barbershop's greatest arrangers. ⢠Vol. 4, âLearn from the Experts,â contains two parts: Arranging in Action--dozens of hours of videos, with arrangers discussing and deconstructing their works; Arrangers' Toolbox-deep dive chapters on specialized topics by top arrangers Filled with case studies, specific examples (with audio and video clips) and lessons learned, each volume aims to unlock new skills and expertise for everyone interested in arranging barbershop!

It is unknown when exactly Brahms wrote his 13 Kanons op. 113, a collection of 13 rounds for female voices. However, it is likely that the individual pieces were composed between 1859 and 1863 and for various occasions. In this period, Brahms did various counterpoint studies to which the rounds as one the strictest forms of counterpoint fit nicely. Another contributing factor around this time was Brahms' work with the newly founded Hamburger Frauenchor [Hamburg Female Choir]. Some of the rounds can be found in the part books of this ensemble. The innocent, small, amorous lines that should be sung lightly and joyfully by pretty girls were not published until 1891. For the whole set, Brahms received the formidable salary of 6000 marks. As well as using lines by famous writers, Brahms drew lyrics from folk songs, too.For three, four and six female voices a cappella.
