Barenreiter 's publication of a new volume of theWorks of Gioachino Rossini, in collaboration with the Center for Italian Opera Studies at the University of Chicago, makes available an edition of the operaIl barbiere di Sivigliawhich meets modern demands. The editors have recently identified numerous carelessly edited places in the last critical edition by referring to additional sources. The greatest changes relate to the overture; for the new edition, no fewer than twenty different autograph manuscripts have been consulted. A detailed appendix containing alternative vocal parts, advice on ornamentation and compositions by Rossini significant in the performance history of the opera complete the volume. A 420-page Critical Commentary is published separately. With this, a critical edition is now available to interpreters, enabling them to perform Rossini's ,,Barber of Sevillewith the greatest possible confidence in the accuracy of the musical material. The performance material is available on hire, and a vocal score will be published at the end of 2009. The Easy Concert Pieces series for alto saxophone and piano provides easy to intermediate pieces from the Renaissance to the modern era for music lessons, concert performances or private music-making. The volumes with accompanying audio recording add to the not very extensive repertoire of performance pieces for saxophone. They were carefully selected according to technical and musical requirements and are arranged in three volumes according to their level of difficulty. This publication is a completely revised edition of our five-volume guitar tutor. In the decades since the first edition, the musical interests of our students and their practice possibilities have changed. To adapt to this, we have partly expanded and partly reduced the musical and technical material of the tutor. We have increased the number of recital pieces at all levels of difficulty, so that our students can spend longer on a varied repertoire at their respective level. We have first of all selected works from the Viennese classics for this purpose but have also enriched the repertoire of the tutor with numerous pieces from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. In volumes I and II of the tutor we have given Hungarian folk songs and children's songs a significant amount of space. In the course of revision, we have expanded the material of these two volumes with simple arrangements of folk songs, nursery rhymes and flower songs, and we have provided very easy, but valuable material for instrumental study in particular for children aged between 6 and 10. We have also expanded the chamber music material to be found at the end of the volumes, because we believe that playing music together is the best way to make instrumental study a lasting experience for our students. The parts are relatively simple, sothe works provide a musical experience almost immediately.

The fourth volume of the section of the Reger Edition devoted to his organ works comprises, in chronological order, the chorale preludes composed between October 1893 and November 1914 in Wiesbaden, Weiden, Munich, Leipzig, and Meiningen. The composition of chorale preludes accompanied Reger throughout his entire career, even though they were composed primarily in the years from 1900 to 1902 and 1914 (Opus 135a). As almost no other composer at the turn of the century, he dedicated himself to the chorale prelude, composing around 100 works in this genre. Since January 2008, the first scholarly, critical edition of the works of Max Reger (RWA) is being produced at the Max-Reger-Institute, Karlsruhe. Its design as a hybrid edition breaks new ground in the methods of editorial practice. It comprises three areas of Reger's compositional output: Organ works, Lieder and choruses and, for the first time, Max Reger's arrangements of works by other composers. To begin the series, the first seven volumes have been published and contain the organ works, which have been eagerly awaited by many.
