Easier Piano Pieces 18-This is a delightful collection of 18 short preludes composed by J.S. Bach and edited here for Piano by Hedwig McEwen and Kethleen Long. The preludes are here grouped in three sets of six each. The first group comes from the Wilhelm Friedemann Bach Notebook compiled by J.S. Bach for the instruction of his eldest son. However Nos. 3 and 6 may have been composed by the son under the guidance of his father. The second group which has been preserved in copies made by his pupils was probably composed by Bach himself. The third group comes from the collection of Johann Peter Kellner - Nos. 1-4 were probably the work of Bach's pupils but no.5 and no.6 wereundoubtedly written by Bach. Prelude in E minor is included as an alternative piece for ABRSM Piano Grade 5 2017-2018 Selected for the ABRSM Harpsichord Grade 4.

Little Organ Book / Six Chorales 'Von Verschiedener Art' (Schübler-Chorales) / Chorale-Partitas. Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. Replaces BA 5171 Volume 1 of Bach'
s organ music presents some of the most frequently played organ pieces altogether. Here they appear in a new engraving based on the New Bach Edition (NBA).
This updated edition takes into account the latest findings of Bach scholarship: Thus, for example, a newly-discovered copy of the first edition containing inscriptions in Bach'
s own hand could be incorporated into the musical text of the Schübler Chorales.
For the Orgel-Büchlein, Bach'
s autograph manuscript remains the principal source. Yet a glance at its early dissemination among his pupils reveals an abundance of readings that give interested organists insights into how perhaps Bach'
s most famous collection was played at that time.
Unfortunately no autograph manuscripts survive regarding the early chorale partitas. However the Foreword helps to solve the 'riddle'
of how these partitas were handed down.

Fassung Ii. Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. The St. John Passion ranks alongside the St. Matthew Passion, the Christmas Oratorio, the Magnificat and the B minor Mass as one of the great vocal works from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Leipzig years. In contrast to his other large-scale choral works, however, Bach never gave this work a definitive final form. Rather, for every performance he substantially revised the general concept of the piece and also changed numerous details. All previous editions of the St. John Passion have combined readings from various layers of sources and thus present the work in a form which was never heard during Bach’s lifetime. Consequently, the wish often expressed by conductors to perform anauthentic version by Bach could not be easily achieved. The present critical, new edition of the St. John Passion fulfills this wish and for the first time makes available the complete music of the second version of the work as it was performed under Bach’s direction in 1725. Since a number of movements were replaced by others, including the opening chorus, this version differs most dramatically from the “standard” version which is well known today. J. S. Bach's Johannes Passion BWV 245 for SATB and Piano. Die Johannespassion zählt neben der doppelchörigen Matthäuspassion, dem Weihnachtsoratorium, dem Magnificat und der h-Moll-Messe zu den groß en Vokalwerken der Leipziger Jahre Johann Sebastian Bachs. The Parallel German-English Texts with Annotations-The major choral works by Johann Sebastian Bach-the Christmas Easter and Ascension Oratorios and the St. Matthew St. Mark and St. John Passions-stand as the most frequently-performed and penetratingly discussed of the genre. Renowned Bach scholar Michael Marissen has assembled a compact well-designed and ideally useful treatment of Bach's oratorios providing the full German texts with literal English translations and copious annotations. He provides strict literal translations of these texts with citations from the Luther Bible as it was known in Bach's day along side extensive footnotes that provide information addressing the interests and concerns of today's Bachcommunity. These are the first translations of the librettos from Bach's oratorios to accommodate the many sense-clarifying allusions to the readings of the Luther Bibles in Bach's day to explore from historical dictionaries the meanings of previously unnoticed archaic usages and to contrast relevant findings from modern biblical scholarship. Marissen's insights are particularly helpful his thoroughness is impressive and the book will be a longstanding definitive and essential reference for choral directors performers audience members and Bach scholars alike.

Organ Chorales From The Neumeister Collection Yale University Manuscript 'Lm 4708'. Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. In 1985 Christoph Wolff, working at Yale University, discovered a collection of 82 chorales compiled by Johann Gottfried Neumeister (1756-1840) which contained 38 compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach. They reveal great stylistic variety whose forebears stem from the Northern German organ tradition.
Already these early works comprising fantasias, fugues, fughettas and imitative techniques employing motifs from chorale melodies bear witness to Bach'
s broad compositional spectrum.
This newly published volume is an updated edition of Series IV/9 of the '

In addition to a newly added concordance and corrections to the musical text, it also contains a detailed Foreword by Christoph Wolff with further information on the Neumeister Collection and hymnological details. A Chorale arranged for 15 Instruments. Full Score for ensemble.Bach's Befichl du deine Wege is a chorale setting (BWV 272) which Hans Abrahamsen has arranged for fifteen instruments. In Hans Albrahamsen's adaptation Bachs chorale gradually ernerges from two melodic fragments both borrowed from the Danish composer Poul Ruders' Four Dances in One Movernent'. In fact both fragments are taken from the last three bars of Ruders' composition. One of Ruders' small melodies is descending the other is ascending. The metamorphosis from Ruders to Bach can be accomplished because both of Ruders' melodic fragments are in fact 'hidden' among the parts of this Bach choraleinasmuch as the composer has transposed it into B minor. In the first verse we hear only the descending Ruders melody. In the secend verse Ruders' second ascending and chrornatically coloured melody is added. In the subsequent verses more and more melodies are added. Thus the piece begins with Poul Ruders' melodic fragment in the foreground. In the course of the next verse Ruders' material gradually recedes into the background and permits Bachs face to ernerge with increasing clarty in the foreground. The piece is dedicated to Poul Ruders. - Thomas MichelsenArrangement1 Flute1 Oboe1 Clarinet In Bb1 Bassoon1 Horn in F1 Trumpet in Bb1 Trombone (Tenor)1 Vibraphone (Motor Off)1 Harp1 Piano1 Violin I1 Violin II1 Viola1 Cello1 Double Bass

BWV997-The purpose of the series if Bach was a cellist is to live the fantasy that everything Bach wrote he wrote for the cello. It may also serve as a way for cellists to get close to Bach through works other than the six solo suites and the three gamba sonatas.I first came across the Partita by Johann Sebastian Bach in a version for flute and strings beautifully recorded by Kurt Redel. Since my early teens it has been on my list of special pieces. The four movements show extraordinary variation. In the hands of Bach the key of C minor becomes particularly powerful of limitless weight sometimes even stern. Is there an opening of a movement from the baroqueera which compares with power of the first movement here? It is a magni-ficent example of musical temperament.Three 18th century manuscripts survive. One found among the papers of C.Ph.E.Bach and two by Johann Philipp Kirnberger a student of J.S.Bach. All three are in the form of a keyboard sonata. Because of the choice of register however one may ask whether they are in turn arrangements of an original composition for solo flute or solo violin. The Double is very pianistic and may therefore have been added later. For all movements except the Fugue I have supplied a piano part for the right hand.

Johann Sebastian Bach opened the second year of his Leipzig church compositions on 11 June 1724 with a performance of the cantata 'O Ewigkeit, du Donnerwort'. The work is based on a church hymn by Johann Rist that depicts, in riveting language, the terrors of the Last Judgment and the torments of Hell, followed by an admonition to live a life pleasing to God. The poem inspired Bach to write one of his most impressive church compositions altogether. This remarkably extensive score with twelve sheets sheds particularly instructive and detailed light on Bach's creative process. The Bach Archive Leipzig acquired this priceless manuscript at the end of 2016, making it possible for the first time to reunite the original performance material and the handwritten score of a Bach chorale cantata. Our facsimile edition complements the edition of BWV 20 presented by James Webster almost 50 years ago in volume I/15 of the New Bach Edition.

This separate edition of the first suite for Cello solo by Johann Sebastian Bach contains the musical text of the well-regarded Wiener Urtext edition with all six Cello suites of Bach by Ulrich Leisinger. Thanks to new findings Leisinger managed to re-evaluate the sources which did not leave the structure of the musical text and the associated delicate problem of the slurs untouched. His re-evaluation gave reasons for a stronger freedom from the manuscript copy of Anna Magdalena Bach which had always been cited as main source until then despite its being very unreliable with regard to the articulation; thus the new edition leads to moreconvincing solutions. This separate edition is the perfect starting point to study Bach's suites for Cello solo in class and provides amateurs with a technically accessible masterpiece in Cello literature.

Autograph: Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preußischer Kulturbesitz-'I have never experienced such silence or seen an audience moved in this way.'(Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy)Up to the present day there has scarcely been a work in the history of music which has fascinated listeners and performers more than Bach's 'St Matthew Passion'. Originally composed for Vespers on Good Friday and even longer in duration than the 'St John Passion' it reconstructs the story of Christ's Passion with immense musical emotional and spiritual intensity. And so this monumental and complex composition has come to rank amongst the high points of Western culture. For good reason the 'rediscovery' of Johann Sebastian Bach's music began in 1829 with theperformance of this work by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and the Berlin Singakademie. The autograph manuscript is regarded as one of Bach's most beautiful the fair copy demonstrates the importance he attached to the careful preservation of the work for posterity. A further special feature is the coloured ink with which he wrote the biblical text and the music of the chorale 'O Lamm Gottes unschuldig'.This facsimile edition reproduces the autograph score of the 'St Matthew Passion' for the first time in high-quality colour printing. Our Krebs is known to have been one of the best pupils of Johann Sebastian Bach, consequently we made a play on words: In this great Bach [brook] only one single Krebs [crayfish] has been caught. In his organ compositions Krebs was essentially a follower of Bach, while in his clavier and chamber music the change of musical styles which occurred about 1750 is clearly evident. Characteristic of the pre-classical period is the juxtaposition and blending of old and new stylistic elements. Thus the music of Krebs represents the new courtly and sensitive spirit of that era. As his second wife she married into a young family with four children, and a busy household filled with music. The music book that Johann Sebastian Bach presented to his new wife Anna Magdalena in 1722, and replaced more lavishly in 1725, treats us to a tantalizing glimpse inside this unique family, allowing us to sit beside Bach as a composer, teacher, husband and father. Over the years, these notebooks became a place for the family to share instructional exercises, favourite pieces ? by Bach and other composers ? to play or sing, early composition efforts from the children, and first versions of some of Bach?s more ambitious keyboard works. What is usually presented as ?the? Anna Magdalena Notebook is a set of excerpts from the 1725 collection.
