Easier Piano Pieces 18-This is a delightful collection of 18 short preludes composed by J.S. Bach and edited here for Piano by Hedwig McEwen and Kethleen Long.The preludes are here grouped in three sets of six each. The first group comes from the Wilhelm Friedemann Bach Notebook compiled by J.S. Bach for the instruction of his eldest son. However Nos. 3 and 6 may have been composed by the son under the guidance of his father. The second group which has been preserved in copies made by his pupils was probably composed by Bach himself. The third group comes from the collection of Johann Peter Kellner - Nos. 1-4 were probably the work of Bach's pupils but no.5 and no.6 wereundoubtedly written by Bach. Organ Chorales From The Neumeister Collection Yale University Manuscript 'Lm 4708'. Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. In 1985 Christoph Wolff, working at Yale University, discovered a collection of 82 chorales compiled by Johann Gottfried Neumeister (1756-1840) which contained 38 compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach. They reveal great stylistic variety whose forebears stem from the Northern German organ tradition. Already these early works comprising fantasias, fugues, fughettas and imitative techniques employing motifs from chorale melodies bear witness to Bach' s broad compositional spectrum. This newly published volume is an updated edition of Series IV/9 of the ' New Bach Edition” (NBA), edited by Christoph Wolff and based on this source. In addition to a newly added concordance and corrections to the musical text, it also contains a detailed Foreword by Christoph Wolff with further information on the Neumeister Collection and hymnological details. Johann Sebastian Bach opened the second year of his Leipzig church compositions on 11 June 1724 with a performance of the cantata 'O Ewigkeit, du Donnerwort'. The work is based on a church hymn by Johann Rist that depicts, in riveting language, the terrors of the Last Judgment and the torments of Hell, followed by an admonition to live a life pleasing to God. The poem inspired Bach to write one of his most impressive church compositions altogether. This remarkably extensive score with twelve sheets sheds particularly instructive and detailed light on Bach's creative process. The Bach Archive Leipzig acquired this priceless manuscript at the end of 2016, making it possible for the first time to reunite the original performance material and the handwritten score of a Bach chorale cantata. Our facsimile edition complements the edition of BWV 20 presented by James Webster almost 50 years ago in volume I/15 of the New Bach Edition.
