Organ Chorales from the Neumeister Collection-Organ Chorales from the Neumeister CollectionYale University Manuscript 'LM 4708'In 1985 Christoph Wolff working at Yale University discovered a collection of 82 chorales compiled by Johann Gottfried Neumeister (1756-1840) which contained 38 compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach. They reveal great stylistic variety whose forebears stem from the Northern German organ tradition. Already these early works comprising fantasias fugues fughettas and imitative techniques employing motifs from chorale melodies bear witness to Bach?s broad compositional spectrum. This newly published volume is an updated edition of Series IV/9 of the ?New Bach Edition? (NBA) edited by Christoph Wolff and based on this source. In addition to a newly added concordance and corrections to the musical text it also contains a detailed Foreword by Christoph Wolff with further information on the Neumeister Collection and hymnological details. The source of the complete Neumeister Collection has recently been made available on ?Bach digital? shedding light on the manuscript for the very first time.Links to major sources have been provided in collaboration with the Bach Leipzig Archive and its database ?Bach digital?. Eight Little Three-part Pieces. Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. Johann Sebastian Bach wrote the present short, three-voice pieces for cembalo. Minuet BWV 929 comes from the collection entitled Small Preludes and Fughettas and was probably written as teaching material. The Minuet and the Polonaise from the Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach are examples of the Bach family's domestic music. Gavotte II (ou la Musette) and Gavottes I and II come from the English Suites, while a further gavotte was sourced from the French Suite No. 5.
The Recorder Trio à la Carte series presents attractive pieces for recorder trio that cover a wide stylistic spectrum encompassing arrangements and original compositions from the classical and entertainment repertoire. It also combines the instruments of the recorder family in various ways. Recorder Trio à la carte opens up new paths that feature high quality, professional-standard recorder literature which motivates young players, sounds good and appeals to listeners.

• Suitable for students of all ages at intermediate-level and beyond

The Flute sonata in G minor BWV 1020 one of the gems of 18th century Flute literature has been passed down to us over the years as a work of Johann Sebastian Bach but its authenticity is disputed. Recent research suggests that the composition most probably came from the pen of Bach’s oldest son Carl Philipp Emanuel. This new edition is an extract from the Bärenreiter edition BA 5220 which also includes the two Flute sonatas BWV 1033 in C major and BWV 1031 in E-flat major which are of similarly doubtful authenticity. The sonata in G minor has been edited by the renowned Bachscholar Alfred Dürr using the editorial guidelines of the New Bach Edition as a basis and it appears now for the first time as a separate performing edition.

Arranged for Choir and Organ-Festive Choral Settings From Cantatas Arranged For Choir & Organ is ideal for church services and concerts and has easy-to-play Organ reductions. The six choral settings of this edition come from cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach offering richly sounding ensemble forces for festive occasions of the ecclesiastical year (New Year Easter Ascension Day Whitsuntide Trinity Sunday). These arrangements for Choir and Organ by the church musician and organist of the Stiftskirche Tübingen Ingo Bredenbach will allow choirs unable to call on large orchestral forces with wind instruments and strings to perform these choral settings.Concertante cantata movements giving prominence to the choir have been selected; at the same time their texts do not restrict them to the particular religious holiday they were meant for in the Church year. These arrangements follow the score of the ?New Bach Edition?. They are playable on every two-manual instrument with pedal. The arrangements available here however require no imitation of the orchestral sound but stand as independent versions.

Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. Bach transcriptions have always been popular for the musical brilliance of the Baroque master opens up a vast field, for composers and performers. Even the pianist and composer Emile Naoumoff who began his career at the age of 8, composed a piano concerto at the age of 10 and played it under the direction of Yehudi Menuhin is an expert and great admirer of Bach's music.
The present edition contains no virtuoso 'fireworks music' but unites three slow, meditative pieces: 'O Mensch bewein dein Sünde groß' (Orgelbüchlein), the aria 'Aus Liebe will mein Heiland sterben' (St. Matthew's Passion), and the arioso 'Betrachte, meine Seel', mit ängstlichem Vergnügen' (St. John's Passion), demanding from the performer the pianistic realisation of subtle polyphony and the development of a very refined sound./ Recueil / Piano

Concerto in D minor BWV

If Bach Was A Cellist-The purpose of the series if Bach was a cellist is to live...(+)
If Bach Was A Cellist-The purpose of the series if Bach was a cellist is to live the fantasy that everything Bach wrote he wrote for the cello. The concerto in D minor (BWV 1043) for two violins string orchestra and continuo by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is one of his most loved works. Indeed the slow movement may be one of the most popular and loved pieces in the instrumental literature. Traditionally it is believed to have been written in Köthen where he held the position of 'fürstlischer Kapellmeister' from 1717-1723 a town that saw the birth of the Brandenburg concertos and the solo works for violin and cello. The Dorian church mode (the absent Bflat in the key of Dminor) would also speak for the younger Bach. Recent research however has shown that the orchestral parts carefully written out by Bach himself and found among the papers of his son Carl Philip Emanuel date from around 1730. The sophistication of the composition also speaks for a later date than Köthen. The original score has been lost.Always in need of concert material for his 'Collegium Musicus' in Leipzig Bach made a version of the present concerto for two harpsichords (BWV 1062). The original key was transposed to C minor so that the top note would not exceed a D but remain within the range of a standard harpsichord. Another C minor concerto (BWV 1060) for two harpsi-chords often heard in an arrangement from the 1920's for violin and oboe by Max Schneider and Max Seiffert speaks for two concertos in D minor for two violins by Bach. When arranging an orchestral score for the pianoforte one has to remember that a double-bass sounds an octave lower than notated. This is a welcomed fact when dealing with two instruments that play the original solo parts an octave down. At the same time for a transcription of this kind the ambition must be to avoid the cello soloists playing in octaves with the violin tutti parts - which is what would happen were they to share the same material. This ambition made a piano reduction

“A mendicant woman from the Haynstrasse aged 59 years Anna Magdalena née Wilckin widow of Mr. Johann Sebastian Bach cantor at the St. Thomas School” – thus reads the entry dated 29 February 1760 in the Leipzig 'Ratsleichenbuch” (City Register of Deaths) for a woman whose name has become known throughout the world thanks to the two music books put together for her by Johann Sebastian Bach. Bach himself opened the book with two of the large Partitas subsequently published in the first part of the 'Clavierübung”; the rest of the contents was determined by Anna Magdalena. On the whole these areshort pieces of “galanterie”: minuets polonaises marches compositions by the elder children and attempts by the younger ones little pieces which she copied out of the family guest book and which had been written there more or less as tokens of friendship by the many visitors in the Bach home. - Urtext of the New Bach Edition - Edition with fingering also available BA5242 - Bibliophile performing edition hardback BA5115

Suite No 2 B Minor Flute
And Strings BWV 1067:

From early in the 17th century until the form engaged the interest of Johann Sebastian Bach various notable German composers - including Rosenmüller Fischer Fasch and Telemann - had contributed to the development of the orchestral suite or 'Ouverture' which name betrays its French theatrical origins. From Bach himself only four such suites have come down to us due to the diligence of C.F.Penzel who was a student at the Thomasschule from 1751 and who made copies of Bach's MSS he found there. Thus neither the dates nor the order of composition of the suites can be established with any certainty. As to the present suite in B minor recent criticism suggests that Bach'sidiomatic flute writing in this popular suite would even in 1737 or later have been considered fashionably up-to-date even in Paris. It has also been suggested that the suite could have been written expressly for Pierre-Gabriel Buffardin principal flautist of the Dresden Court Orchestra.
