The hymn Nun ruhen alle Walder (Now All Forests Rest), arranged by J.S. Bach (No. 6, So sei nun, Seele, deine, from Cantata BWV 13), is a guiding light throughout this four-movement composition. Pütz wrote this work as a musical outcry against the wilful, profit-driven destruction of our environment. When Bach used the word ruhen (to rest) over 350 years ago, it probably had a different nuance from the meaning it has today. At the beginning of the 21st century - the so-called age of progress - nun ruhen alle Walder should mean now all forests die . Massive industrialization and globalization, coupled with pure greed, corruption, political scandals, an ever-wideninggap between the rich and poor, and other such senseless human actions, are pushing our blue planet closer and closer to the point of no return. This work is not intended to be a ranting accusation. It should remind us of the beauty and harmony that can exist all around us in nature, if we take care of it. Pütz hopes that this will, one day, help put a greater emphasis on humanity's survival, and coexistence with nature rather than the exploitation described earlier. All four texts were created by Australian poet Graeme King, whose works were discovered by Pütz, by chance on the internet. Pütz was especially captivated by King's clarity, and intrigued by the possibilities of adapting and melding the strong rhythmical structure of King's writing with his own musical language. The four movements are as follows: 1. Tears of Nature 2. Grrrevolution 3. Stand up! 4. Tomorrow The world premiere of Four Earth Songs took place on 7 July 2009 at the 14th WASBE-Conference in Cincinnati (USA). This work is dedicated in friendship to Jouke Hoekstra, conductor, and the Frysk Fanfare Orkest (the Frisian Fanfare-Orchestra). Tears of Nature 2. Grrrevolution 3.Stand up! 4. Tears of Nature 2. Grrrevolution 3. Stand up! 4. Tomorrow Die offizielle Uraufführung von Four Earth Songs fand am 7. Juli 2009 statt, anlasslich der 14. WASBE-Konferenz in Cincinnati (USA). Grrrevolution 3. Stand up! A Man’s Destiny has the Frisian line ‘Yn Ieren en Sinen’ (‘with much conviction’) as its subtitle. The work was commissioned by CMV Harmonie Sneek (based in Friesland, The Netherlands) to acknowledge their 95th anniversary. The composer based this work on the life of a former member of the band, who played flugelhorn in the ensemble until the age of 86. Their favourite piece of music, ‘Canon’ by Thomas Tallis, provided a great deal of musical inspiration for this characteristic and versatile work.

Although he was born in Split, Croatia, of Belgian descent, Franz von Suppé’s nationality is defined less by his actual descendents than by the country and city where he lived and worked and had the great majority of his success, the Austrian capital, Vienna. It was here where, with assistance from the Johan Strausses and Franz Lehar, he helped to assure Vienna’s reputation as the operetta capital of the world. He achieved this by pioneering operetta as a major medium for the theatre. The overture to Light Cavalry is one of his two most famous works, the other being the Poet and Peasant Overture written as incidental music for a play of the same name.

It may be surprising to see a fanfare piece commissioned by a Japanese ensemble, since fanfare orchestras are typically found in Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg, and also France and Switzerland. Senzoku Gakuen is one of the largest and mostprestigious music universities in Japan, and home to a wide variety of ensembles and orchestras. Since 2006 they have had a fanfare orchestra, which was started by Sotaru Fukaishi, a euphonium teacher who felt further performance opportunity wasneeded for saxhorn instruments. Fukaishi had loved the sound of fanfare orchestras ever since visiting the World Music Contest in Kerkrade (Holland) several years earlier. Jan Van der Roost was involved with this new initiative from the beginning, and they were also joined by Manu Mellaerts for certain projects. The Dean of the music department, Professor Kazuo Tomioka, fully supports the ensemble and commissioned Ostinati. The première took place on June 11th at Maeda Hall inMizonokuchi (Kawasaki) where Senzoku Gakuen is based. The piece opens with an impressive timpani solo, followed by brass and saxophone. The rhythmical pulse remains constant and the music is fiery and assertive in character. A pentatonic melodygradually emerges and the music loses its vehemency and softens. The initial percussion ostinati subsequently recurs and the first section of the piece concludes in a similar mood to the opening. The second movement is sweet and melodic, opening witha long passage for the saxophone family in a minor key. The same theme then appears in the major and is developed upon; the music builds to a majestic orchestral forte, reminiscent of a pipe organ in its sonority. The theme returns in the originalminor key with a change in instrumentation leading the movement to a quiet and peaceful end on a soft E minor chord. The finale starts with percussion: a four-bar pattern is repeated several times over which the movement’s melodic themes areintroduced. These melodic elements are varied and used in different versions and the ostinato idea, which characterizes the entire piece, is highlighted. The theme travels through the orchestra, appearing on various instruments and in variousregisters. It captures the listener’s attention and displays the full range of sound and colour within the fanfare orchestra.

An exceptionally clever idea, to combine the standard bugle calls into an easy march for beginning students. It is something they already know, and can be successful on right away. We are delighted to welcome composer/educator Chris Ferguson to the Carl Fischer catalog. He brings a wealth of experience working with beginners that has translated into this wonderful new march for young students.Reveille March is inspired by the bugle calls found throughout military history. The “Reveille call is the signal used to awaken the troops for morning roll call and accompanies the raising of the flag. At the conductor’s discretion, the soli sections (measures 29 and 37) may also be performed as solos in reference to the traditional solo bugle call.“To the Color” (measure 49) is used to signal the end of a soldier’s day. It is also used when a full band is not available to render honors and commands all the same courtesies as our National Anthem.

This impressive work was composed for the Dutch-Friesian city of Leeuwarden, which was considered the ??cultural capital?? of Europe, 2018; the composer spent his college years in this city. This festive work for bagpipes, drums and concert band is based on the melody of the anthem of the province of Friesland. Proud was written for the music event, Grutsk, which is the Friesian word for proud hence the title. Various bands have performed on five different stages across the town centre. The finale was performed in a concert held at Wilhelminaplein (Wilhelmina Square), which opened with this work. This world premiere was conducted by the composer himself. The bagpipes areoptional, but advisable. As a whole, they give the composition a very special sound.

In the space of a few months, in the autumn and winter of 1789, Mozart filled more than 650 pages of a score that shows practically no signs of mental or physical exertion. The result was one of his most profound operas, Cosi fan tutte , which has held listeners spellbound with its blend of bitterness and comedy to the present day.Our easy-to-play vocal score is based on the volume edited by Faye Ferguson and Wolfgang Rehm for theNew Mozart Edition(NMA II/5/18) and on the latest scholarly findings from the critical commentary published by Henning Bey and Faye Ferguson in 2003.Due to numerous customer requests, Barenreiter will be successively offering vocal scores to major Mozart operas in hardback editions again. Sturdier hardcover editions of important repertoire works are more likely to survive the rigours of a musicians's life.
