Franck de LASSUS naît à Brest, alors que Johnny Hallyday chante, fort à propos, «Pour moi la vie va commencer». Sa mère est professeur de musique et la famille possède un piano droit sur lequel Franck passe la plupart de son temps. Plus tard, il choisit de rester en contact avec son instrument préféré en devenant accordeur et réparateur de pianos. Par ailleurs, Franck joue souvent avec d?autres musiciens dans les pianos-bars parisiens, et c?est là qu?il est repéré pour accompagner des vedettes comme Salif Keita, Bill Deraime, Michel Fugain, Julie Pietri ou Kama. Il se produit également sur les scènes, radios, télés, avec les Chevaliers du Fiel... Et c?est justement pour des émissions comme Taratata, Chabada ou Vivement dimanche qu?on l?appelle pour accompagner les plus grands interprètes parmi lesquels Céline Dion, Johnny Hallyday ou Charles Aznavour. En 2007, il fait la rencontre d?Eric Miche, entrepreneur. D 817, inspired by gypsy melodies, was composed in 1824; his ?Allegretto in C minor? Mario Aschauer'
studied piano, historical keyboard instruments, conducting and musicology in Linz, Salzburg and Vienna. He performs as a soloist and chamber musician with, among others, the Austrian ?Calamus-Consort?, and has developed a wide-ranging repertoire on the fortepiano, cembalo and organ. Mario Aschauer has been a collaborator for the ?New Schubert Edition? since 2008 and is a teacher at the University of Vienna. Cesar Franck's Sonata for Piano and Violin is one of the most treasured works in the violin repertoire, a masterpiece of cyclic form with a gracefulness and expressive force almost paradigmatic for the age of musical Romanticism. This work was composed in 1886 and was dedicated to the Belgian violinist and composer Eugène Ysaÿe.Franck's correspondence proves that he was directly involved in the printing of the sonata. Consequently, our new scholarly performing edition draws mainly on the first edition of the separate violin part. For the piano part, the first edition of the version for violoncello and piano, which appeared during Franck's lifetime, was an important source as many engraver's errors found in the first printing of the violin version had been corrected in this violoncello version. In addition to these sources, both autograph scores of the violin sonata (Franck's working copy and his fair copy) were consulted to clarify questionable readings.Bärenreiter's new edition also includes two short separate movements for the same instrumentation: the early 'Andantino quietoso? op. 6 (1843), a hauntingly beautiful piece composed for performances with Franck's violinist brother Joseph, as well as 'Mélancolie?, first published after Franck's death in 1911. Bärenreiter?s new scholarly-critical edition of op. 87 edited by Christopher Hogwood is based on the score and parts from the first edition; where necessary he also consulted the autograph.

The first edition parts were engraved after the manuscript parts and not after the score. Here the readings of the legato phrasing and the dynamics more accurately reflect the composer?s intentions than in the first edition score.
