For violin cello and piano'The title 'Time Will Pronounce'is taken from the last lines of Joseph Brodsky’s poem 'Bosnia Tune' which deals with the horror of the unnecessary unacceptable daily deaths in Bosnia during 1992 (andstill in 1993): ‘Time whose sharp blood-thirsty quill parts the killed from those who kill will pronounce the latter tribe as your type’. The violin and cello are (generally) treated as a unit independent of the piano. Theform (generally) alternates slow and fast tempi without motivation. The musical ideas are (generally) carried over from section to section. (Generally) the harmonic melodic and textual materials features third and semitonesderived (generally) from the movement of the bass part in the opening bars.

Philip Glass's String Quartet No.4 was composed as part of the Memorial concert for the artist Brian Buczak. Commissioned by Geoffrey Hendricks it received its first performance on 4 July 1989 at the Emily Harvey Gallery NewYork City.

Par HUREL PHILIPPE. Dans En filigrane, I'électronique, fixée, tient à donner l'illusion du temps réel. La musique étant rapide et rythmique, la texture se faisant dense, il serait difficile d'aller «pêcher» ici et là des petites interventions de chacun des quatre musiciens du Quatuor Tana et de les traiter en temps réel. La partie électronique est donc à la fois un prolongement instrumental mais aussi une forme organisée sur la base du micro-montage, les sons produits en studio étant volontairement courts et venant simplement iriser, colorer, spatialiser des événements qui donnent la clé de l'articulation formelle de la pièce. Au contraire, en arrière-plan, en filigrane donc, une longue séquence - les premières mesures instrumentales de la pièce enregistrées préalablement - se fait entendre à trois reprises. Cet arrière-plan est audible ou non, couvert volontairement par le quatuor ou apparaissant seul, tel une matrice qui a fait naître le matériau de la pièce. La musique est nerveuse, rythmique, et oscille entre I'idée de processus «objectif» identifiable et variation «subjective». Hauteurs et modes de jeux y ont la même place mais prennent tour à tour le dessus, en fonction de la dramaturgie de l'oeuvre. La partition est dédiée à mon père, disparu durant la composition de la pièce. Elle s'inscrit dans une série d'oeuvres récentes marquées par les deuils - So nah so fern, D'autre part, Ouelques traces dans l'air, Ritual trio - qui traitent de la disparition, de la résurgence et de la trace. That melody (distant voices) is played within an extremely slow tempo, and the notes which form the melody gain different textures by becoming disassembled, and played by different techniques. In our daily lives, our inner voices become concealed by our daily customs. The act of composing, to me, is to find out that concealed distant voices, make those voices spatialized and construct them within the musical time. This work is dedicated to Alois Lageder. in E flat major. Par STEFANI JAN. Composition was completed at the beginning of 1825, in stylistic terms it falls between Classicism and Romanticism. The straddling of stylistic epochs is evident in the four-movement design of the quartet, which refers do Classical solutions established during the previous centrury also in other genres. Nethertheles, it is worth drawing attention to the third movement, the minuet, which represented something of a testing ground for contrasting tradition with progress, history with the present, and formal with frivolous, which these popular dances may have symbolised. Stylistic hanges heading towards Romanticism are evident also in the way the work's melodic layer is organise. The Józef Stefani's advanced compositional skills prove his crucial contribution to the evolution of the string quartet on Polish soil.
