Canadian composer Kenley Kristofferson was commissioned to write The Meeting Place, a work depicting the connection between people and the warmth and security of a shared space â?? in this case, the band room. The music celebrates these places which can feel like home, welcome all kinds of people, make them feel like a part of something bigger than themselves, and hold special power for us to feel safe and connected. With lush harmonies and song-like melodies, this ballad gives everyone in the band a chance to shine and contribute to a shared story about, for some of them, one of their most cherished spaces. Performers and audiences alike are sure to love this piece. Moving music!

Antonin Dvorak first premiered his New World Symphony at Carnegie Hall in December of 1893 with the goal to bring American musical sensibility to European classical music. The second movement, labeled Largo, contained the melody that would later be identified as Goin’ Home. This well-crafted adaptation of that beautiful melody for concert band contains all the elements of the original orchestral version that has moved orchestral concert patrons for over a century. Expert scoring and careful orchestration techniques will ensure success with all ensembles. We think this outstanding arrangement will become a concert band classic for many years to come. Viva Noel is a medley of glorious holiday favorites in a fast/slow/fast form. Opening with a musical fanfare based on the French hymn He is Born the Holy Child the arrangement transitions quickly into a fanciful rendition of Deck the Halls. The following section opens with a beautiful brass choir adaptation of It Came Upon A Midnight Clear and develops into a lush, full band setting of this charming carol. The finale begins as a quick, light version of Here We Come a-Wassailing ending with a declarative brass fanfare with small bits of Bring a Torch, Jeannette Isabella and Angels We Have Hear on High. This high-energy holiday arrangement features all sections of the ensemble with exceptional emphasis on the percussion writing. Viva Noel! will be a solid opener or closer for any holiday concert!

Beyond the Light and Darkness is an energetic concert overture for mid-level bands. Masterful scoring makes the band sound much more difficult than it is. The bold opening theme is repeated in the main section, explored and developed with varying styles. The flowing middle section attracts the players and the audiences with beautiful melodies and harmonies. An excellent choice for both concerts and contests. First class!
