The special appeal of this “Mass for the Midnight Service on Christmas Eve” lies in its use of no fewer than ten traditional French carols while impressively revealing Charpentier’s mastery of the concertante style.The eight solo vocalists (SSAATTBB) can easily be taken from the chorus. They are divided into three groups – one group of two sopranos and two groups each comprising alto tenor and bass – which interact with the chorusand instruments. From Lecons des Tenebres by Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1634-1704)This simple Baroque choral is perfect for a developing choir of young voices. Charpentier originally wrote this joyous masterwork for 3-Part Mixedvoices with an accompaniment of continuo and two flutes or violins. Patrick Liebergen has provided a keyboard part that reinforces the vocal parts and revised the flute parts to be optional for flutes or violins (parts includedin the choral). “Lift Up Your Voice” is a concert opener and is well suited for contest or festival use.

Sa musique religieuse est particulièrement attrayante : il a composé de nombreux motets messes et oratorios. En 1702 il compose une œuvre de circonstance le Te Deum dont le Prélude solennel et brillant deviendra célèbre comme indicatif de l?Eurovision.
