Organ and percussion one of the most exotic instrumental combinations in modern music invariably produce delightful sonic effects and contrasts. This also applies to Zsigmond Szathmáry's Sense of Rhythm where this renowned concert organist and performer of contemporary organ music explores the duo format as a vehicle for conversation conflict and reconciliation in a rich array of shades and hues. The lavishly scored percussion part (vibraphone glockenspiel woodblocks cymbals tam-tam tom-toms bass drum Chinese opera gongs and much else) ensures a great variety of colours perfectly suited to the harmonic capacities of the organ. Both instrumental partsclearly reveal the composer's fondness for sophisticated rhythms and varied proportions.Once again Szathmáry uses the organova series to present contemporary music at a high level that places demands on performers and listeners alike while employing a musical idiom and energy that never fail to achieve their effect.Lavishly scored percussion partRhythmic energetic effective: contemporary music at a high level

Par HAENDEL GEORG FRIEDRICH. In terms of layout and musical text, this scholarly-critical performing edition of George Frideric Handels Complete Organ Works is based on the complete edition volumes of the composers keyboard music edited by Terence Best as part of the HalleHandel Edition (HHA). The HHA Critical Commentary forms the basis of this edition, which however differs from the HHA volumes in two respects. Firstly, it gathers together, for the first time, all of Handel works for which it can be solidly argued that they were composedfor the organ. Modern and Contemporary Music. Par . Now finally in English too: The third part of the organ method Historical Performance Practice in Organ Playing follows on from part two with contributions by Guy Bovet (on Jehan Alain), Hans-Ola Ericsson, Anders Ekenberg, Markus Rupprecht (Olivier Messiaen), Hans Fagius (Maurice Duruflé), Jeremy Filsell (Marcel Dupré), Bernhard Haas (Arnold Schönberg, Ernst Krenek, John Cage, György Ligeti, and others, plus the latest developments) and Armin Schoof (neoclassicism). As in the first two parts of the organ method, here too a representative selection of composers is discussed. Alongside mainly personal recollections (e.g. from Hans Fagius) there are analytical essays (including by Jeremy Filsell). Bernhard Haas has organised one section of his text as an introduction to the playing techniques and aesthetics of new music, beginning with pieces which are easy to play. This English edition contains new chapters by Kevin Bowyer (The Development of New Organ Music in Britain / Contemporary Organ Music in North America). Laukvik?s organ method Historical Performance Practice in Organ Playing has now become established as a standard work. It is aimed at organists who want to incorporate the latest thinking on historical performance practice into their interpretations of works. The three volumes provide a practical introduction in a detailed, scholarly and comprehensible form, by giving organists as precise a picture of the interpretative traditions and aims of previous and modern/ contemporary eras as possible. The editions are aimed not only at organists, but also at organ teachers who are looking for a manual to use in their teaching. / Date parution : 2022-05-03/ Recueil / Orgue

Antonio Vivaldi probably composed his famous Gloria in 1725. Although the exact circumstances of its origin remain a riddle it was definitely conceived as a self-contained concert piece rather than as part of a complete setting of the Mass. The compositional fabric the festive character of the outside movements and the predominance of the strings in the middle movements make this masterpiece of Venetian sacred music a natural choice for an arrangement for solo voices choir and organ. Rather than imitating the orchestral writing Martin Focke?s arrangement offers a self-contained version tailor-made for this combination of instruments thereby making a pinnacleof European church music accessible to the often more modest resources of today?s churches.Standard work of the oratorio repertoireSelf-contained version for solo voices (SSA) choir (SATB) and organHighly supportive easy-to-play organ partIdeal for use in church servicesDuration: c. 30 mins. The Bärenreiter Choir & Organ Series presents great choral works in arrangements for soloists choir and organ; no orchestra is needed. The original orchestral parts have been transcribed into easy-to-play organ reductions whereby the contemporary tradition of such arrangements has been taken into consideration. In some cases the original organ versions by the composer were used. The organ parts are presented on three staves. The choir and solo parts always remain true to the original. You need only one edition for soloists singers and organist alike.

Sonntagsmusik-The new edition of what is with doubt Petr Eben's most famous composition for the royal instrument is based on a revision by Prof. Jan Hora undertaken in cooperation with the composer. Since this cycle was written half a century ago (1958) the Organ has undergone certain changes and it was therefore necessary to make corrections in the notation of this classic work in order that it corresponds to the way the instrument is played today. But it was not only contemporary aspects which influenced this latest edition. We also took a step back right to the very beginning giving the work its original title Musica Dominicalis which furtherunderlines its timelessness. This edition contains a preface and notes on performing the work by Jan Hora in three languages (Cz./Ger./Eng.)

Par REGER MAX. The seven chorale fantasias by Max Reger are among the most important of organ repertoire ? masterpieces blending chorale melody and programmatic music based on the text of the chorales. Published on the occasion of the composer's 150th birthday, this fundamentally revised Urtext edition, in two volumes, is edited by the internationally renowned organist and Leipzig professor of organ Martin Schmeding. As one of the most influential Reger interpreters, Schmeding not only includes the latest research, but also addresses the need for a contemporary interpretation of the chorale fantasias on modern organs. The edition includes all the original dynamic and agogic indications (including continuation lines to cresc., etc., which are missing in many modern editions), as well as all the original registration and manual indications. Martin Schmeding's new edition provides for the first time an original musical text that combines the requirements of a modern Urtext edition with the demands of a practical edition. / Date parution : 2023-08-12/ Recueil / Orgue

10 Orgelwerke Aus 4 Jahrhunderten-New Music on old instruments and new organ literature in dialogue with historical Iberian works. The present edition contains a collection of works composed for an authentically rebuilt historical Spanish organ and covering a wide range of styles which adds new sounds to the purely Baroque repertoire. With works by José Blasco de Nebra Francisco Correa de Arauxo Antonio de Cabezón Pedro de Araujo and new compositions by Guy Bovet Michael Kapsner Pavel Klimashevsky Zsigmond Szathmáry and Alfred Müller-Kranich.The new Spanish organ of the Hochschule für Musik Mainz as an authentically rebuilt historical instrumentfrom the workshop of the organ builder Joaquín Lois from Tordesillas in Castile shall both adequately reproduce early music and be a source of inspiration for contemporary music. For this reason the Hochschule für Musik Mainz commissioned five composers to write modern compositions according to the motto 'Early music in dialogue with New Music' which are a valuable addition to the repertoire of historical instruments of the 'Siglo de Oro'.Certain specifications had to be taken into account: e. g. a limited pitch range half stops for treble and bass registers the short octave as well as a mean-tone temperament. In addition each composition is based on a work of the Iberian organ literature; sometimes the work found its way into the new composition sometimes it only served as an inspiration. The pieces can also be played on a modern organ although there is a special charm in playing and hearing them played on an appropriate historical instrument. Encompassing a broad range of styles the resulting collection adds new sounds to the purely Baroque repertoire.

A major influence on Bach ? who once walked 200 miles to hear him perform ? Buxtehude is among the great names in Organ music and the study of counterpoint. Born five decades after Heinrich Schütz the 'father of German musicians ' and a little less than half a century before Bach he bridged the era between the founder of Protestant Baroque music and its greatest master. This collection of church chorales attests to Buxtehude's reputation as an outstanding composer of sacred Vocal music. For his texts the composer drew upon scripture as well as church hymns and contemporary or medieval sacred poetry. Albert Schweitzer in his famous biography ofBach observed that Buxtehude's chorale preludes are 'chorale fantasias of the most varied kinds from the simplest to the most ingenious. In the simple ones the melody goes its way quietly just embellished here and there with a few ornaments and accompanied by interesting and always ingenious harmonies. . . . In the large chorale preludes Buxtehude tears the melody in pieces throws the fragments into the flood of a brilliant animated fantasia.'Authoritative and modestly priced this treasury of Buxtehude's works offers organists a source of endless satisfaction and inspiration.Reprint of the Breitkopf & Härtel Leipzig 1903 edition.

Toccata and Lament was composed on commission in 2008 to inaugurate the large new organ in the Christ Church Cathedral Rochester NY USA. This instrument is a detailed reconstruction of a late Baroque organ of 1776 from Vilnius in Lithuania. The point of departure a clash of contrasting eras and musical cultures on two continents already bodes excitement. Martin Herchenröder a composer and professor of music theory has incorporated these contrasts in his roughly eight-minute composition. The result is a musical idiom of rare distinction universal in its musical resources and alternating between tonal triads and extremely dissonant clusters. The heart of the pieceis a dirge which using the Baroque doctrine of the affections relates to Eastern European cultural history in and around Vilnius a history marked by the predations of 20th-Century war.Expressive and effective contemporary organ musicAmalgam of musical traditions from the 18th to 21st CenturyExplanatory foreword by the composer (Ger/Eng)
