Prayers for Peace is a collection of three beautiful prayer settings by Alexander L'Estrange: God be in my head  Lighten our Darkness and The Lord's Prayer. Text early 15th century-A new setting of the well-known Christmas text this work was written for London Consort Choir. It is a mostly homophonic and approachable but effective alternative to other settings of the text which will add variety to Christmas services and concerts as well as a choir’s Christmas repertoire. The mood of As One Who Has Slept taken from the great liturgy of St. Basil on Easter Saturday morning is full of awe silence and expectation. The atmosphere is deeply solemn as we stand before the greatest mysteryof our salvation.This work (for unaccompanied double choir - SATB and SSATB) was commissioned by Winchester Cathedral and was first performed in January 1997 by the Winchester Cathedral Choir conducted by David Hill.

Philip Wilby (b.1949) is a Yorkshire-based contemporary composer. Since 1990 he has been best known for his extensive and highly successful Brass Band repertoire while maintaining a steady output of liturgical andchoral work. His delightful carol The Word Made Flesh was written in 1987 for the choir of Bradford Cathedral. The lyrics are taken from the poem by Ben Jonson (c.1573-1637) ?I Sing The Birth Was BornTonight? (c.1600 but published posthumously) which reflects on the nativity scene. The carol is scored for SATB with an organ accompaniment and is of approx. 3 minutes duration.

A setting of verses of Psalm 122 this anthem was written for the Coronation of King James II in 1685. For SSATB Choir with optional organ accompaniment. Edited by Bruce Wood.

Novello New Choral Series-Why O Lord do you stand far off? was written in memory of the victims of the London bombings on 7 July 2005 questions the presence of God in times of human disaster particularly when committed by man upon his fellow man. The piece's focus lies in the two rhetorical questions first sung by the female voices at the beginning. This opening three note motif returns frequently throughout the work forever challenging the whereabouts of God's watchful eye. This commemorative setting of Psalm 10 was recorded by the Exeter College Chapel Choir in 2006.The Novello New Choral Series is an inspiring selection of new works from a range of contemporarycomposers offering pieces for all types of choirs including sacred and secular works from simple four-part settings to more expansive yet accessible repertoire in an exciting variety of styles. Jonathan was a treble at Winchester College where he was head Quirister in 1998 before Moving on to Radley College as top music scholar. He developed his interest in composition at Oxford University while studying at Exeter College as both an academic and choral Scholar. His first set of Evening Canticles was premiered in 2004 and a year later a second was performed in St Paul’s Cathedral. Recent highlights include performances at Oxford’s Sheldonian Theatre Tewkesbury Abbey St James’s Piccadilly and at the Lausanne Summer Festival by choirs and orchestras including Schola Cantorum of Oxford Commotio and The Oxford Spezzati. Future engagements include performances by the Oxford Spezzati and Laudate in London Lyon and Chester (where his latest choral commission will be premiered in September 2011).
