This glorious collection of beautiful choral music by composer James Whitbourn includes fifteen short works drawn from his oeuvre from the first few years of the 21st century. Many of his greatest compositions areincluded in The Choral Collection with many of the pieces working perfectly for seasonal performances while also reflecting the many fruitful collaborations of Whitbourn's distinguished career. Allworks are arranged for SATB Choir. James Whitbourn has become renowned throughout the world for his acclaimed compositions and settings of numerous texts. He has been described as truly originaland an innovator of contemporary British choral music collaborating with people like Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Choir of King's College Cambridge. The former appears here as A Prayer Of Desmond Tutu a setting ofone of the Archbishop's prayers. His arrangements and compositions for the King's College Choir have been universally critically acclaimed with A Great And Mighty Wonder Nunc Dimittis and Were You There representing these hugely popular collaborations. Whitbourn has also had a very close relationship with the BBC since his beginnings as a composer working with them on three pieceswithin The Choral Collection. Eternal Rest and Give Us The Wings Of Faith were both composed specifically for television broadcast the former (in its orchestral form) was played for thefuneral of the Queen Mother in 2002. His longest work for which he is most famous is a setting of text from'the Diary of Anne Frank'. There Is No Speech Or Language comes from this work taking its text from othersources but that still maintain the beauty and tragedy of the wider piece. James Whitbourn's “Beatus Vir” (Blessed is the man who fears the Lord) is here set for SSATB choir. With long, supporting lines are sung by the lower voices, the soprano 1 & 2 weave mellismatic lines over the top in a chant-like style. Composer Whitbourn is known for his rich harmonies and shifting tonal centers and this new work is true to this style. Commissioned for the Choir of St Matthews Church, Northampton. The Twenty-Eight Times is a Vocal piece composed by British composer and conductor James Whitbourn . The Twenty-Eight Times was commissioned by the United Westminster Schools and Grey Coat Hospital Foundation to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, and performed in Westminster Abbey on 25 October 2013 by the choir of Queen Anne's school, Caversham. This ancient Hebrew text from Ecclesiastes (Qoheleth) was a favourite of President Kennedy and formed partof the Eulogy delivered at his funeral service on 25 November 1963. He was assassinated on 22 November 1963.

The Seven Heavens - The Life of C.S. Lewis In the Planets of the Middle Ages is a work by James Whitbourn for SATB chorus and orchestra. The piece was commissioned by the Belfast Philharmonic Society on the occasion of their 140th Anniversary Season 2014-2015, and first performed in the Ulster Hall on 30th May 2015 by Belfast Philharmonic Choir. The work lasts around 31 minutes and this is the vocal score. This vocal score is compatible with both the orchestral version and the chamber ensemble version, which are available on rental.
