The Prince of Sleep to words by Walter de la Mare is a languid setting capturing masterfully the absent-minded sentiments of the words; imagery of dreams and the natural world (especially woodland) always seemed to inspire Elgar.In the Summer of 1925 Elgar?produced two songs ?The Prince of Sleep?and The Herald and both were on the subject of death like their immediate predecessor from the year before The Immortal Legions and The Wanderer of the year before that. Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer-This piece was originally concieved when Phillip Brunelle was in the 9th Grade of his school career and was asked to translate a Christmas song into Latin. He chose Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer and recieved an A but with the admonition that his teacher has hoped he would choose something from the sacred repertoire. However Brunelle and Marks have created something wonderfully different to the usual Christmas repertoire and will make a fantastic addition to any Choral concert or performance this Christmas! The Lass Of Richmond Hill was first composed in 1790 for SATB choir. It has been transposed to the key of C Major and arranged with a Piano reduction by the English composer and conductor Henry Leslie(1822-1896) who was well known for supporting amateur choral groups. The lyrics were written by Leonard McNally (1752-1820) and tell the story of a girl who lives on Richmond Hill whose ?charms all other maids?surpass?.James Hook (1746-1827) was a British composer organist and harpsichordist. He was born in Norwich but spent his working life in London teaching giving recitals and composing operas and other vocalworks. His music was often performed at both Drury Lane and Covent Garden.
