Shchedrin's oeuvre spans nearly every musical genre, and it is hardly surprising that an output of such versatility contains some rather remarkable instrumental combinations, for example Music from afar for 2 bass recorders, or Balalaika for a solo violin playing pizzicato throughout. This predilection for the unusual leads the composer in Parabola concertante with its basically subdued and contemplative mood to add a charcteristic counterpoint by contrasting the accompanying string orchestra with timpani. The piece was composed for master virtuoso Mstislav Rostropovitch, who played the solo part in the first performance at the International Cello Festival in Kronberg. Cello, string orchestra, and timpani. Piano reduction with solo part.

Dotza uer etudes have been part of the standard repertoire in cello lessons for generations. Friedrich Dotzauer (1783-1860) was amongthe major cellists and cello pedagogues of the 19th century and knew what makes a good etude: it should deal specifically with a certain technical problem and at the same time not be monotonous, but musically appealing. The cellist of the Leipzig Gewandhaus and the Dresden Hofkapelle managed to do that in an exemplary manner. 24 Caprici in tutti tuoni Op. 35 (1816) is Dotzauer's masterpiece, wonderfully showing off the varied tone colours and playing techniques of the violoncello. Demanding etudes for lessons and performances, with beautiful melodic and harmonic ideas, some with slow expressive introductions, some with artistic arpeggios or contrapuntal polyphony. Our new edition follows the original sources and contains the original text.

This string quartet by a grand master of the German avant-garde combines a decidedly traditional four-movement structure with experimental situations in the concert hall. In various sections the performers act on revolving stools, in others they take positions at the edge and in the corners of the platform or around the listeners. However, the composer also allows a performance in a conventional seating arrangement which emphasizes the work's classical nature with regard to material and form even further.

The composer Theodor Kirchner (1823-1903), a friend of Johannes Brahms, devoted his work almost exclusively to piano and chamber music as well as lieder. Among his numerous works are also collections pieces of easy difficulty or with easy educational demands. They include the “very small pieces for string quartet” (without opus number). These pieces are seven miniatures of varying character, from cantabile to lively. Since they are, for the most part, technically easy to master, they offer the opportunity to practise chamber music ensemble playing: listening to each other, responding, coming in together, taking over and other challenges of the string quartet. Quartet sound itself can also be trained with the pieces - the ideal preparation for auditions and competitions.

The String Quartet in G minor Op. 8 dates from the time when Joseph Haas studied with Max Reger (1905). While reflecting the clear influence of his teacher as to form, it also shows the young composer as an artist with an independent personality as well as a truemaster of his craft.

Much has been speculated on the instrumentation of this contrapuntal masterpiece since Bach's death. For a long time, the fragmentary work was regarded as a piano work but since the early 20th century musicians have experimented with various instrumentations. This arrangement by Hans-Eberhard Dentler, who has carried out scientific research on The Art of Fugue for decades, manages through the choice of instrumentation not to use any kind of transposition. It also ensures the best possible transparency and faithfulness to the score through the soloistic rendering of the individual parts: the combination of bassoon and double bass as well as the assignment of the violoncello to the tenor part are the key to the faithful reproduction of all parts without any intervention of the arranger.
