This adaptation of the Charlie Parker classic features a fast swing tempo and the bop-style lines you'd expect, but it also pays tribute to Bird by casting selected horns in intimate, combo-like settings within the full ensemble format. The solo work goes to lead alto, and alternating sax and brass solis culminate in a shout that takes this chart out strong.

Full score for Bent Sorensen's Birds And Bells, a Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra. Birds and Bells was composed in 1995 for the Swedish trombonist Christian Lindberg. As the title suggests it is not a 'roaring' trombone concerto but rather a 'pianissimo concerto' filled with the contents of the title. It must be emphasized that 'bells' here has nothing to do with death or destruction which connoisseurs of my music might be tempted to think. The work is in three movements which are played without a break. The second movement ends with a kind of 'pseudo-nightingale cadenza', and I feel the third to be a slow lullaby. oBirds and Bellso was premiered on 30 April 1996, with Christian Lindberg and the Aarhus Sinfonietta conducted by Soren K. Hansen. Bent Sorensen. Solo Trombone part also available: 14042072.

Arranged for 3 to 6 octave handbell choir, optional 3 to 6 octaves of handchimes and optional flute, windchimes and bongo drum. Level 3. With a mysterious and evocative opening, this arrangement of a French carol is sure to add an element of the ethereal to your worship or concert setting. The theme becomes more insistent and energetic with each successive verse, before culminating in an almost-raucous final iteration. Optional percussion drives the piece along, and the optional flute provides interesting, bird-like ornamentation. A treat for listener and ringer alike!Companion product (digital downloads):.

Composer Yukiko Nishimura presents Songbird, written for string orchestra in her signature fresh compositional style. After a short introduction, the main theme is a Siciliano-like melody, a dance in 6/8 time, followed by a brilliant and lively section. The melody makes use of long phrasing balanced by many wonderful countermelodies.S ongbird is composed in a standard ABA form. The melody has a long phrasing, and many of the countermelodies are hiding in each part. From m. 106, there is a short coda, where the tempo becomes increasingly faster until the end. This captivating piece pays tribute to the legendary bird of prey, whose populations are again rising as their ecosystems are increasingly restored. The driving rhythms of the opening D minor theme portray a falcon on the hunt, followed by a section in 3/4 featuring a rhythmic pulse that depicts the strong wing beats of a falcon's flight pattern. A major motif introduced in the Coda brings this work to a majestic close. Duration 4:35.
