Ce concerto d'un seul mouvement s'inspire directement du concerto pour quatre clavecins et cordes en la mineur de Jean-Sébastien Bach, lui-même s'inspirant du concerto pour quatre violons et cordes en si mineur d'Antonio Vivaldi. Loin de moi de composer un pastiche néoclassique ou bien d'adopter une attitude postmoderne en réévaluant un matériau du passé. Mon souhait est de prendre un matériau qui nous est proche (présent, repérable, codifié, lourd de sens) et de l'intégrer dans mon propre style de manière à ce que la source première soit complètement transformée en tout autre chose. Mais aussi de montrer des correspondances secrètes mais immuables entre des musiques apparemment éloignées. La notion de post-modernité suppose un retour à une réévaluation des éléments du passé musical et une amnésie de la modernité actuelle. Cette reconsidération et cette amnésie d'autre part me sont étrangères: je considère la lecture du passé mais aussi le travail du compositeur en phase avec son présent comme étant des constances dans l'histoire de la musique. Bach, Vivaldi et Stravinski ne sont pas plus postmodernes que je pourrais sembler l'être. Le percussionniste soliste est un peu ici le deuxième chef d'orchestre et relance constamment des tempos, des métriques, des formules rythmiques ou encore ponctue de divers accords le discours musical. D'où le titre en anglais: Loop and Bell (boucle et cloche). Le jeu du percussionniste est très théâtral, parfois humoristique en donnant l'impression d'une improvisation: l' idée de départ joue sur une pulsation régulière aux guiros pour rejoindre peu à peu les premières mesures du concerto de Bach.
